I am 15 days post surgery and am feeling great. I am on pureed food now and will be for at least 2 wks. I am struggling to get enuf protein in. On sunday i pureed tuna with a little mayonaise, it was great, i ate this with avacado. Sunday went great with the tuna so on Monday I did the same with sardines. Big mistake. They went down fine but the residual affect left in my stomach and intestines was what felt like I had been kicked in the stomach. Today I ate my usuall black eyed pea stew pureed then latter ate some vanilla yogurt. The yougurt did the same as the sardines. Anyone know why or have any thoughts on this. For the rest of the day I am sticking to warm water, I am really hesitant to eat anything else, that feeling in my gut felt so bad and hurt.

Make sure to eat slowly, little bites, and chew really well (although puree probably didn't require much chewing.)  Measured amount - probably no more than 1/4 cup for now.  For protein option havea protein a shake or carnation instant breakfast. (with milk its 13 g protein).

Sip on water, and good luck.  If it still hurts on things like that, you should probably call your surgeon's office.

Thanks for the advice, tomorrow i am going to stick to what I know my new stomach likes cream of wheat and blk pea soup. I am a little gun shy but will definitely do as you suggested, I think maybe my portions were to big.

PNC recommends no more than 1/4 cup by 3 months, 1/2 cup by 6 months, 3/4 cup by 9 months, and 1 to 1.5 cups from a year on out.  So right now, even 1/4 cup is pushing it.  And I don't know much about sardines, but aren't they a bit oily?  More so than tuna?  That could have upset your new little pouch.

Was the yogurt a light/low sugar type?

Just keep track of the things that irritate your pouch.  Not that they always will, but you are learning!
