OT: Stop Looking At Me Swan!
Stop Looking At Me Swan!
OK, that was a lame reference to an Adam Sandler movie line (you will have to guess which one). I so love a ruse! Anyway, I was out walking this past Saturday morning when I heard what I thought was a goose honking overhead. It sounded funny, but then again my hearing isn’t that great. I looked up and there were two magnificent swans headed for the same lake I was walking toward. They honked back and forth, like they were having a nice conversation. I doubt that it was about me. I kept on walking as the swans flew out of sight. I couldn’t spot them when I got to the lake. With the cold snap we are experiencing, the lake had a thin skim of ice on it. Maybe the swans were put off by the ice, but it could also have been my presence, I suppose, since no one else was out and about. In any event, I would not have seen them at all if I wasn’t out walking, if I wasn’t doing something physical to take care of myself at that moment.
While I like wildlife shows on TV, it’s not like seeing the real thing. I used to spend an inordinate amount of time watching TV and reading books, dreaming about things I would like to do. These days I can do most of those things, especially the simple things that put me out in the world, that let me experience more of the unexpected wonder and grandeur of the great outdoors. It makes me feel more alive, healthier in body, mind and spirit, and no longer a stranger to joy.

I haven't seen swans in MN yet though! Only in England thus far. I'm so jealous!
