No Weight Lecture from PCP
No Weight Lecture from PCP
Last week I went to my PCP for the first time since my pre-op physical almost 18 months ago to have them look at a minor thing with my foot. Even though they weighed me before I could see the doctor, it occurred to me this morning that neither the doctor nor the nurses brought up my weight at any time during my visit there. That hasn’t happened in more than 20 years. In the past I would often avoid the doctor’s office entirely, even when I was really sick, because, well, I am a man, and also to avoid the humiliation of receiving yet another lecture about my weight. I knew that I was obese and that being so put my health and life at risk. I didn’t need someone rubbing my nose in that obvious and embarrassing fact. Anyway, the lack of a lecture this time around was a nice reminder about just how far I have come.

Even tho my PCP refers to me as his "rock star" patient nowadays, that nervous feeling before an appointment never has gone away for me. STILL nervous about weight, blood sugars, etc...
Needless, to be sure, but those old tapes die hard!!!

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...
It must have seemed like a huge accomplishment. So sit back and enjoy the feeling, you've earned it.
My doc was always very nice about it and as my weight-related ailments stacked up, her words FINALLY sunk in.... that I could be relieved of about 90% of my "issues" if I would just drop some weight and get healthy.
GOOD FOR YOU, RP, that you didn't have to listen to another of those spiels! And CONGRATS for the picture of health you have become :o) You mentioned that they didn't bring up your weight in a negative light, but did your doc even you a pat on the back for how far you have come since he/she lost saw you 18 mos ago?
Keep us the awesome work!
