Does Dr. Ikramuddin practice at Abbott Northwestern Hospital (in addition to the U of MN)?
Hi Kathy,
Thank you for responding to me. You are correct - Dr. I does practice at both the U and at Abbott. In talking to the nurse at the Abbott program, I've found that I would have to start from ground zero to join their program - meaning another informational seminar, then an intake appointment/assessment. I've already done all that with Dr. I at the U, so if I go with him, I'll likely stick with the U.
I appreciate the information you shared on the DS. I think if I had pursued surgery at my highest weight, the DS would be an option. Incidentally, I did meet with Dr. Buchwald in June. I really liked his personality, and from what I understand, he's an exceptional surgeon. He flat out refused to consider me for a DS based on my weight, though. I started this process in May at a BMI of 41, and was hovering just under 40 when I met Dr. B.
I'm still considering what to do. It's awfully tempting to go with what my insurance company has approved, and get surgery ASAP. I could have gastric bypass or an adjustable band before Christmas no problem. In my heart, though, I believe that the VSG is the procedure for me.
