Roseville coffee on Saturday... please read
So I know all you lovelies will be there on Saturday at 8:30.... And I have a special request...
My sister is approx 4 years out, and she had her RNY done at Regions.. she was one of the first patients they did there... and she had great success.. until recently. She has gained some weight back and is upset and depressed over it. She DOES NOT wish to return to her surgeon.. she disliked him (I don't know the name)... And simply that is why she has not gone back or followed up with him in the last for years..
So I after careful talking and coaching and hugs and kisses I have gotten her to realize she needs follow up care and she needs a surgical group that will reach out to her and promise to take care of her. I found that to e the case at ANW... o together we're going to attend the ANW info session next Tuesday so she can get her feet wet back into a follow up program and schedule a consult with Dr Schwartz.
Along with that, I have also talked her into attending coffee with me on Saturday so she can touch base and talk with others who are maintaining so she knows she is not alone. I do the best I can to support her but I'm a newbie. She also confided in me today (via Facebook chat) that she is sad and depressed because I am almost down to her current weight she is at now.. and she is upset she'll be the fat sister again. This crushed me... I didn't know she was silently harboring this sadness while I have been celebrating my sucess in front of her while she's struggling.
So thats a little background. I ask that you LOSER veterans take her into your caring arms and give her the support she needs so badly. She knows she has my support but I walk that thin line that soon I'll be below her current weight. I know you care and I know you reach out when someone needs it.. and she needs it badly.
We'll see you in Roseville @ 8:30 saturday!

Stacy! I didn't know we were sisters!!! You just described me! Well, except that I do continue with the support of my dearest friends by going to coffee and an occasional PNC support group. But like your sister, I'm 3.5 years out...lost half my body weight and have now jumped up 25 pounds and I'm hating it. It does cause depression and feelings like I've "failed". But really, I AM successfull and I still have the tool and most important, I have caring, supportive friends who will kick my butt when I ask them to, let me cry on their shoulders when I need to, and cheer me on when I meet a goal, whether the goal is big or small.
I've found that some Saturday's, I just don't want to get out of bed, but when I get up, meet friends for coffee, I feel like I can take on the world! I walk out of coffee happy and confident that I can face every challenge.
I'm so looking forward to meeting you and your sister and getting her back on track to happiness.

2014 update...regained but haven't lost faith.
Looking forward to meeting you and your sister, both, Stacy! I have a sister story too. Mine has been trying to get the surgery for about 3 years, and has denials from insurance. She recently got denied on her 3rd, final, appeal. She has co-mordities and everything. I have been bigger than her our whole lives, and I had the surgery 6 months after my information meeting. I continue to tell her about my success and she is very supportive. But it will be awkward when my weight goes below her's. It's hard!
Michael is referring to the monthly support meeting at ANW - which is the second Tues of the month and we enjoy going to that. You are going to the full information session, which we attended last April. It was really good.
Please know you and your sister will be warmly welcomed by this wonderful group of WLS people! See you Saturday.

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...
