Surgery on Christmas Eve????

 Dr Benn is doing surgery on Christmas Eve, this date may be my only choice if I want to get this done by year end.  (INS approval papers went in yesterday).  I spent 3 months in the hospital 2 yrs ago and I know what Holiday Staff is like.  Would I be nuts to do it do you think?  Anyone else have surgery over a holiday?

I had a total knee replacement the day before Thanksgiving last year and it was just fine.  Thanksgiving hospital food was not great, but that won't be your concern.

I just found out the 21st may still be available, now if I can just get approved I can grab the date! 

Dr. Pierce did my surgery last Dec. 30th , so I spent New Years Eve in the hospital at Fairview.  80% of the time the nurses were just fine; unfortunately, because of the holiday I never saw Dr. Pierce post-op, only their physicians assistant.   Overall, I would give the holiday stay a B-. 
I wanted  to get it done in the calendar for insurance/deductible reasons.

I had surgery on 12/23/08 - and my service at Fairview was good. I loved sharing my holiday spirit with all of the nurses and aides, and they were all in good moods, too. I got one cranky one & requested another - no problem.

I had one real quack of a nurse - so to entertain myself, I just messed with her.  She couldn't even lighten up and enjoy my cracks, she just looked at me with that deer-in-the-headlights thing going on.  Her loss, I laughed at how pathetic she was every time she left my room!

Make it what YOU want it to be, baby!!!

 I will just keep my eye on next Christmas and think about how much healthier I'll be!

2 nights in the hospital is nothing compared to what I did before, so I guess I should just try and have fun with it.  Will Santa bring me jello  and chicken broth?  I'd gladly give up the candy in my stalking for a nice mani/pedi!  It lasts loner than chocolate right?!

A girl after my own heart Darla - I had this mean nurse when I was in for the 3 months and by the time I left I actually really liked her.  But I did mess with her a lot until she lightened up.  I actually still talk to some of my nurses still. 

I am so glad that the rooms are private!  Whew!

Thanks for the posts guys, it made me feel better already.  I just need to get approved and get my date.  I'll feel more settled.

If it were me I'd have it done any day and twice on Christmas, and 4 times if Christmas were on a Sunday.  Holiday staff?  They are making twice the salary probably...and it's not like they bring in temp workers.  I would rather have surgery on Christmas Eve then many other things I find the holidays bring...but thats me.

Have fun...enjoy it.  Who knows, you just might get a visit from Santa....whooohoooo.....
