ULCERS
Hi Marsh...
It's one of the reasons my WLS office warned me about getting back on the caffeine train after WLS...
OH:
"The formation of ulcers in the stomach or small intestine. This is an uncommon complication which occurs in approximately 4 out of 100 patients after gastric bypass surgery. Ulcers are more common in smokers and patients taking medications for arthritis."
Caffeine (in any form, not just coffee) can be acidic and corrosive to our stomachs. It can be in non surgery individuals too.. many ulcers are caused by caffeinated products. I was really really good for a long time on not drinking caffeinated coffee and then screwed up and got back on it.
At my 3 month visit they asked if I was drinking any caffeinated beverages and they noted coffee on my chart and talked to me about the concern they have for ulcers post surgery...
that's what I know.. I can dig thru my post-surgery paperwork for more info.. i know there is an info sheet about ulcers in there...
