i am currently struggling with the pre surgery weight loss.  i gained weight 15 lbs to be exact and now i have 33 lbs to lose instead of 18.  now i am searching for advice about liquid diets before surgery to help lose the weight and i am now sure how to go about this.  do i do two meals liquid and what kind of liquids.  i just need some help.  please i am tired of being afraid to live because of my weight.  and i read your all posts and i get so encouraged and then i doubt myself.  so now i have made a decision to do it.  i have quit smoking and started journaling and am ready finally.  any and all adive would be appreciated. thanks

The liquid diet from Park Nicollet was super easy. We were allowed 4-5 shakes a day. We had the choice of Boost, Ensure or Carnation Instant Breakfast (either no sugar added or regular). We could have popcicles, and any non-caloric liquids during the day.

GOOD LUCK!!

I did 3 protein shakes a day.. the first few days suck.. you want to eat, you want carbs, you want sugars, you want caffeine.. but you just gotta do it.

After the first few days, the rest of the days were easy. I did 3 protein shakes a day.. plus all the non caloric liquids I wanted. I lost 11 lbs in 10days...

Thats my best advice. Not only do you lose weight, but you get yourself off of caffeine, carbs, sugars, and all the other crap we are addicted to pre-surgery.. then you have surgery.. and you're starting with a clean slate. I would tell anyone who's going to have WLS to do it that way...

A pre-packaged plan that you can buy may help. This is the one that was suggested by my dietitian:  www.bariatricdiet.com/pre-surgery.htm
You also eat more than just protein shakes so this may be an easier diet for you to follow than straight up JUST shakes.

Good luck!

I am having surgery with Dr.Pitt at SMDC in Duluth, and I am starting week#2 of a 3 week liquid diet!  I do 4 Carnation Instant Breakfasts, no sugar added, Crystal Lite, chicken broth, V8 juice, and sugar free popsicles. SF Jello is my favorite, as it allows me to chew!  I am really shocked that I am not hungry or craving salt or carbs! I forgot to mention that I add protein powder to the CIB shakes!  Good luck on your journey!

I have lost 19 pounds in week #1!

I did two weeks liquid diet before surgery.  I could've bought the prepackaged diet Stacy talked about, but instead wanted to do it differently.  I was told to have about 90 g of protein and between 900-1000 calories a day.  I used protein powder (Body Fortress - available at Walmart and Target) mixed with milk, and ice and used an immersion blender to make shakes.   I drank about 3-4 of those per day and filled in with ensure or boost (pre-mixed shakes) when I needed to.  It went really well.  I lost 16 pounds in 2 weeks.
