Dancing In The Moonlight
Dancing In The Moonlight
My alarm clock went off at 5:15 this morning and the first thing I noticed when I opened my eyes was the moonlight through the trees in the backyard. It was a soft, mysterious, inviting light. The song “Dancing in the Moonlight" quickly popped into my head and I felt a smile forming on my face. I dressed quickly for my customary early morning walk, wondering if I should care whether the neighbors saw me trying out some dance moves as I walked in the dark. I know I am supposed to be a serious middle-aged man with responsibilities living within the bounds of the social expectations that those cir****tances imply, but I am occasionally overcome with bouts of whimsy and there is nothing wrong with indulging in that a bit….or so I tell myself.
I was about to leave the house when my 21 year old son unexpectedly came up the stairs and asked if he could walk with me. He is normally not up at anything close to that hour, so I figured something was up and he needed to talk. We walked two miles and talked about his plans to go back to school this winter semester, student loans and a little about the weirdness of life. Given their rarity, you really have to treasure times like that with your young adult children. He had no idea that I had eagerly anticipated dancing alone in the moonlight on my walk, of course, otherwise he might not have been open to the advice I gave him.
Even though I am well into my workday, snippets of that song keep playing in my head and making me smile, partly because I am still able to let whimsy into my life and partly because I feel so connected to my son right now. What is making you smile today?

Lots of things have made me smile today, too. My husband getting up with me to have his coffee as I prepared to leave for work (he works at home). My sweet dog as he went through his morning "agenda" wanting to go in and out of the house, wanting to be fed, etc. Talking to my brother on the phone, even briefly, this morning cheered me up.
But my biggest smile was when I got on the scale and realized I'm down 38 pounds! I really liked that.

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...
