Worried
So next week I can finally meet my surgeon and after that the request will be sent to Medica. Does anyone know about how far out they had to schedule their procedure. I need to have WLS done by the end of the year since my work is changing health insurance providers come January 1st. The nurse said I shouldn't have a problem getting in by the end of the year, but its coming up fast and I'm nervous. How many weeks were you surgeons booked out before you could get your date? Thanks
I think each surgeon has their own time-table but I'm sure if they know your issue and how important it is that you get in before the end of the year, they'll make it happen! My main worry would be getting the approval in a timely fashion....maybe they'll go ahead and give you a date in early December in anticipation of approval after the full 30 days the insurance companies are allowed.....that way you'd have your date - better to have to cancel it then to miss out....ask them if they'd consider doing that....
GOOD LUCK!
GOOD LUCK!
Hi and WELCOME!!!!!!!!! I had medica Ins, and I knew a little over a week
( I think) that I was approved. I decided in Oct to have surgery and By early Dec I was all done. It went so fast. There are different things I had to do, Physical, test to make sure I wasn't crazy ( Boy did I spoof them) Sleep apnea testing, Nutrition meetings, and what not. I hope you get everything done as fast as I did. Stay on top of the ins people because they can be a little slow.
Good Luck to you and keep us posted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Believe me, they will get you in by the end of the year if you get approval for 2009. Hospitals will get any money on the books at this point for the fiscal year.. Our surgeons at the hospital I work at are overbooking the ER's when they can, because we need to make up revenue for the year and the downfall of the economy. I'm sure they'll book an extra spot for you if you're approved even if all the regular spots are filled. If not, make sure you see a patient rep at the hospital your surgeon is going to do the surgery at and they will work with you and the surgeon to get you in.

I'm in the exact same boat! I have my surgeon appt on Nov 11th and then they will ask Medica for approval to do RNY by the end of the yr. Did all of the other appts, nut, psych, sleep, and my cardiologist ok'd (had a heart attack at 44 2 yrs ago) so nervously awaiting. It's hard isn't it?
