OT - Jobs Anyone?

I have been job hunting well over a year now.  Factor in two major surgeries and recovery time, it's been nearly two years.  I'm spending 8+ hours/day filling out job apps, and am registered with several agencies.  I've had a few interviews, but nothing yet.  I am desparately needing something to be able to pay my health insurance for next month.  I have some left, but not enough.

I do have a temp job lined up for 20 hrs (yes, ONLY 20 hrs) next month.  I've made several calls today, also.  I've even applied at McDonalds!

Does anyone know of ANY (well, MOST any! ) jobs out there where I could make some money ASAP?  I have tons of office/computer experience (MS Office Suite, scanning, etc.).  I have a degree in Health Information Technology (Medical Records), but am looking also for just general clerical positions, and even seasonal positions.

I'm willing to work most hours, but do have some evening commitments in November.

Thanks for any tips!

Hi hon!  I feel your pain.  Before my last job I was laid off for 9 months.

Also, try not making your resume so that you are over qualified...isn't that horrible?

Try these if you haven't already:

Star Tribune
Indeed.com
CareerBuilders
Hotjobs.com
Snagajob
Monster
United Health Group
Medtronix
Allina

Hope something helps :)

Let us know how you do.

Thanks, Teresa.  I've got several of those on my bookmarks list already, but a few I don't, so I'll check those out, too.  I just spent about four hours looking through the StarTribune site. At least those are easy to apply to once you've registered.  A couple clicks and you're done!

Yeah, the overqualified thing s*cks.  I'm applying for anything I can that I fit into.  But I don't know how to "dumb it down."  If I don't list my qualifications, I won't get a call, and if I do list them, I'm overqualified.  WTF?  (Sorry for my French, but I've been speaking a lot of that lately).

I feel your pain, too, Nancy and am in the same leaky boat.  I surely do hope something comes up for you quickly.  My only saving grace is that the government stimulus package mandates our COBRA payment is only 35% of what it normally would have been.  A $790 payment each month would kill us.  I will keep you in my thoughts and swing a chicken that you find work soon.

I'm an accountant with collections and cash management experience and I, too, have been told not to look overqualfied.  However, the idea of taking a position paying less than unemployment seems like such a blow to the ego.  What to do?  What to do?

Keep your chin up . .  .maybe check out the malls.   I do see that some of them are hiring for seasonal workers now.   Lord knows the Christmas decorations are EVERYWHERE already!  That may help keep the wolf from our doors for awhile.      Best of luck to you!

Thanks, Tuna.  Unfortunately, I've already exhausted my COBRA, and I didn't fit into the window of qualifications for the stimulus program (thanks, Obama).  I think it should have first covered those who were about to lose it, not those who were midway through COBRA.  I did immediately qualify for MCHA through the State, though, but I have to make those payments.

I do have a 20 hr temp position lined up for next month, but that won't cover much.  I can't draw out my PERA funds (Public Employees Retirement Association) now without taking at 38% tax reduction.  In April, though, I'll be of age to start getting monthly payments, though, so I have to wait until then.

I may just have to take a trip to the Mall and walk around and look for "Help Wanted" signs.  Right now I'm not particular as to FT, PT, or temporary.  I just need some money coming in!

Thanks, Kathy.  One requirement, though, is "Must have collections experience."  I don't, so this one won't work.  I will check out "linkedin" to see if they have other positions I might qualify for.

Thanks!

I've worked in the nonprofit sector for over five years, and my favorite site to scope for jobs is the Minnesota Council of Nonprofit's job board. Here is a link specifically for jobs listed under Administrative Support Services, but there are other categories you could browse as well.
