Delicate Subject...Still Gonna Ask
Oh - I didn't realize they hadn't discussed what type of surgery they were going to do with you. I guess if you don't know, you can't put it in there! All the best of luck to you. It's surprising how fast the time goes.

In the hospital, sleeping on my back with the bed tweaked JUST RIGHT was a GOD SEND! Pillows propped on sides, knees up and bent a bit, it was SOOOOO comfortable! When you get home, you may do well to have several extra pillows, maybe even a wedge pillow for under your upper body. By 3 weeks post op, I found myself sleeping on my back a LOT - I was ALWAYS a side sleeper - so finding myself capable of sleeping on my back was EXCITING!
As for getting out of bed? I've had my share of surgeries, most of them open. I've found one little trick to be quite helpful - be sure to tuck your sheet/blanket SNUGLY into the foot of the bed. Then when you don't quite have the abdominal strength to sit up and get out of bed, you can grab a handful of sheet/blanket and PULL yourself up using arm/upper body strength! Worked wonders for me.
As for the wiping question? It was never an issue for me - pre OR post op.
Best of luck to you! Questions are good - ASK AWAY! You never know when you might ask a question that someone else has been to timid to ask for themselves!!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I had an open DS.
1. I slept in a recliner for several weeks. I couldn't stretch out flat and be comfortable.
2. They had PT work with me in the hospital to teach me how to get out of bed comfortably - it wasn't too hard.
3. I was super swollen and needed to use toilet tongs for a couple days - get a pair of long BBQ tongs at the dollar store and then you'll be set - if you don't need them for tush wiping, you can use them to pick stuff up off the floor for the first couple weeks when it's a challenge to do so. Or use them for BBQing. LOL.
