Having sat vigil with my mom for 5 days before she finally passed, I can completely understand the agony of watching and waiting for someone to finally be at peace. It was the most grueling 5 days of my life and my heart sinks right now as I type just thinking about it.
I pray that your grandfather-in-law can finally be freed of his earthly body and rest peacefully for all of eternity as soon as he is ready. I also pray that you and your husbands family can find the strength to endure the days until it happens. It can really be the most miserable time watching someone minute by minute wondering if he took his last breath only to find him taking another. It's an emotional roller coaster, but he will only go when he feels his business here is finished.
On a side note about my mother's passing...it wasn't until everyone was focused on something other than my mother that she was able to quickly and quietly sneak out the back door and off to heaven's gates. For her, it seems as if she just didn't want a scene as she drew her last breath.
My prayers and love to you and your family! God Bless
