Green Light from Psych & Goal Pre-Op Weight!!!
I can finally feel things moving along in this crazy process! This past week I had my 4th and final pre-op psych appointment and she said she is giving me the GREEN LIGHT and promised to have her paperwork submitted by next week along with mailing me a copy. This morning I had my 4th of 5 phone consultations with the HealthPartners WLS advisers, and after my final call on 10/12 they will fax my completion certificate to the Bariatric Center and HealthPartners office.
I had my required dietician appointment at the Bariatric Center a few weeks ago and she was quite impressed I had already lost 11 of the required 18 pounds and that I was logging all my food on SPARKPEOPLE.COM. This has made it MUCH easier to keep my calories around 1200 per day! This has helped me reach my GOAL pre-op weight required by the doc... as I hit 276 this week... so nice to see that instead of the 301 that was staring back at me back in early August! Hoping I can keep up the new exercise and eating habits for the next several weeks!
This all means that in about 15 days my Bariatric Nurse should be submitting all my documentation to HealthPartners while I wait the standard 10 days or so to find out if I'm approved. I'm hoping to join all you losers on the bench sometime in November! Trying to remain patient!!!

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything anyone can say to help with the patience component. I think most people who undergo WLS have been overweight for quite some time and its natural to be very excited to start a new life. Personally, patience has never been one of my strong suits and I went CRAZY after I knew I had completed the last step and a request was being submitted to insurance. I had Health Partners and got my approval 12 days after submission. It was via a phone call from the surgeons office - the actual letter didn't arrive for another two or three days. So don't go nuts if you don't get approval the next day. It WILL come.
LOL, easier said than done - I outright harassed my family over the mail every day and tracked down everyone I could find with the same dr/insurance to see how long it took for them to get approval (which by the way, even people with the exact same surgeon and insurance took a different amount of time for approval than me). I thought that after going through the WLS process for a year I could patiently another two weeks, but I was WRONG.
