Do You Expect More Attention These Days?

Have you come to expect more attention from the people in your life now than you did before surgery?  It is not that I am terribly demanding now, but it seems like a pretty big change from what I was like before surgery.  When people don’t consider me in their plans or take into account how I might feel about something, or want to spend time with me doing things I want to do, I find myself getting upset instead of feeling like crap because I didn’t seem to matter to them.  Maybe it is a self-confidence thing, this feeling like I am relevant in my own life.  What about you?  Do you expect more attention these days?

From friends and family, I don't expect to be treated any different now than when I was pre-surgery.  I'm the same person inside now that I was before...no different.  Just because the fat is gone, doesn't mean I'm better and need to be treated differently.  My family has always invited me to things, even if it was to the beach (some night be afraid to wear a swimsuit, not me), or to biking the trails at the state park, or anything physical that might have been challenging to me because of the extra weight.  They wanted to me be involved and get active.  When people don't invite me to something and I think I should have been included, yes I get upset, but then, I think....they had their reasons and I let it go.  I was always told...don't wait for someone else to make your life happy, make it happy yourself.  So if they didn't invite you and you want to do something with them....invite them.

As for expecting more attention from strangers....just the opposite...I'm happy to look normal and blend in the crowd.  If they're looking at me now, it must be because of my stunning beauty and not because I'm as huge as a house.

I don't think I am any better as a person now than before surgery.  I am healthier and more confident, certainly, but I think the big difference is that I feel like I should matter as much as anyone else.

I know that, but I didn't always feel that way......and thanks for the cyber-hug.
