It's been a long time!
Most of you probably won't know me but there are some vets I see still around who probably will but I thought I'd check in and say hi!
I had my surgery nearly 2 1/2 years ago now. I was (compared to most RNY-ers) a "slow" loser. Lets put it this way, it took me 2 years to lose 101 pounds and get to my first goal and about 2 years, 3 months to get to a healthy BMI (113 pounds lost). I went from 240 pounds and a size 18/20 to 126 pounds and a size 4. I never ever would have predicted I'd see a size 4 again! Heck, I would have been happy at a single digit 8!
As someone who is over two years out, I just wanted to encourage pre-ops and post ops who may be having a stall or weight loss may be slowing down, that if you follow the rules, the weight WILL still come off. There were times where I went 2 months without losing a thing but I knew that as long as I wasn't gaining and I was doing the best I could, the numbers would still go down and I was willing to hang in there and do all it took to see those numbers continue to go down!
I still never drink soda. I know my "nut" said I could have a little bit here and there "in moderation". Well, me and soda "a little here and there" just doesn't mix. I was a hard core addict and I am never even going to entertain the risk of going back to being a soda drinker. The first 6 months, that was pretty much the only thing I grieved over and it was hands down the toughest thing for me to give up. But, I can honestly say now being 2 1/2 years free of it, I don't even care to have it anymore. I don't eat ice cream (another big vice of mine pre-surgery), I rarely eat junk and I eat very little pasta or breads. (I just can't do a lot of rice or pasta anyway). Now, I'm in no means perfect - tonight, I succumbed to the temptation of that box of my kids Lucky Charms staring me straight in the face every time I walked in the kitchen. Normally, I have no issues steering clear of sugar cereals, but I just HAD to have a little bowl - those marshmallows were just calling my name. Now mind you, I had a small bowl - but I still felt yucky and slightly dumpy after. So, I got my lovely reminder why I stay away from that stuff to begin with. lol! So yes, dumping still happens even 2 1/2 years out. I am thankful for dumping because it really does keep me in check and I think truly has cured me for the most part from my sugar addiction pre-op.
So, I guess although I am not around as much these days, I just had to pop by and peek in and say hi, because no matter how busy life gets, I am daily thankful for WLS. It has changed my life forever and I am so thankful! I just wanted to encourage all the pre-ops, post ops and everyone that you CAN do it, no matter how long it takes. Don't give up, remember the basics, and enjoy the journey!

Thanks so much for the view from the "other side"! Giving up Cokes after 3-4 a day has been my biggest struggle, too. I have succumbed about 3 times and taken just that first icy gulp. Each time it tastes HORRIBLE and my expectations are crumbled. I guess our tastes really do change. It is so great to hear rom someone who has done this well, asnd you surely do look fabulous. Heartiest congrats to you!
