Will they really not do my surgery???

I started this process in April '09 when I weighed in at 230.  I wasn't sure after I went through many of the required meetings, etc.  I finally came to the decision after I went on vacation and gained 3 lbs in July. I am used to gaining much more than that so I thought this was GOOD news.  My BMI is about 37 but I have severe sleep apnea so my doctors and insurance approved it.  I was supposed to lose 10 lbs but since I gained 3 on vacation they said I have to lose 13.  I didn't own a scale so went out and bought one. I think I'll be close - maybe down 11 - what if I'm off by 2 lbs. Will they reschedule the surgery?  I've already been approved for my FMLA and have really worked out a lot (love to exercise) and also added a weight lifting class - I'm worried that's what's making me feel great, but slowing the weight loss. Will they measure me and if I"m down several inches too will they give me the go ahead?

I'm somewhat in the same boat, I had to lose 15, lost 12, but I have to do bowel prep so I guess they say you lose between 2-5lbs during that.

Good luck.

I dropped some of the excess over the weekend being on 3 slimfast a day, no snacks.

I didn't notice a surgery date - I'm assuming it's already set since you're concerned, but your best bet would be a self-imposed liquid diet for a few days.  PNC requires it, and most people lose a nice amount of weight on that - I lost 14in 10 days!

You're so close - just do your darndest to get there so it's a non-issue!!

When is your surgery scheduled for? Did you have your preop class yet?  I had a few people in my class that didn't make their required weight loss and they made them come back in the following week to re-weigh.

Do protein shakes only until you get the weight off. I dropped a few pounds from the cleanse the night before, but don't count on that. You'll feel much better and less stressed if you just do it. I know it's hard, but you CAN do it.

Kristy - you had Dr Pierce too.   He is the one who said to me it didn't matter if I was a pound or two off.  Did you like him?  Did they weigh you on the day of your surgery too?  What protein shakes do you mean?  Llike the EAS advantage?  do you make them into shakes or buy the pre-mixed kind?  I'm losing my mind nervous - I really have done everything I could do - but  I am afraid I started too late - I just wasn't sure for the longest time.  Dumb me, but this is the biggest decision of my life. I just wanted to be really sure.

Dr. Pierce is such a hottie too isn't he? He makes me laugh.  And he makes me feel like I'm a really cool, unique person - so not  a typical "Doctor" type.

Yes, Dr Pierce is really cute!  Everyone gets weighed the morning of surgery. The intake nurse brings you back, you put on a gown and you get on the scale.  They go through your medical history and all that, takes quite a while.

You could do the pre-made EAS shakes, or slim fast high protein, or one of the powders from GNC or whatever.

When is your surgery?

It's next wednesday.  They just called me and changed my surgery time to 12:30 instead of 7:30 a.m.  He had another he had to do in the morning.  I should have told her - if he gives me a pass on one or two pounds I'll be glad to change the time!  LOL

I talked to Anna and she said Dr. Pierce is more of a stickler with the weight loss but that nobody is worried about 3 to 4 pounds. They are looking at a lot of things including weight loss - and especially weight gain.  I feel a lot better now but will definitely do the protein shake thing just to solidify my concern about the variance between my scale and their scale.  All the sudden hunger feels like a GOOD thing !!!

Thanks for the info - It's hard to imagine going through something like this without this website! (and you!)

I had to weigh in the day of surgery and I was totally convinced by what they all had said previously that they absolutely would NOT do surgery if I hadn't lost what I was suppose to!! Good Luck and try the liquid diet, it usually works. When is your surgery? And also the bowel prep usually helps a little too!!

This has been the best decision besides marriage and kids that I have ever made!!

I went through fairview too and yes its true they will not do it if you don't lose the weight. As someone else stated the liquid diet does help you lose the weight!!

Good Luck!
