A Nearly Overlooked WOW Moment

I was looking for something in my desk at work this morning and I ran across a list of goals I had written several years ago at the outset of what ultimately proved to be another failed weight loss endeavor.  One of those goals was to be able to go canoeing without the canoe looking like it was doing a “wheelie" even when another person was sitting in the bow seat.  Yesterday, on a whim, we decided to canoe down a 10 or 12 mile section of the upper Mississippi River.  It was the first time I had been canoeing since the year before my weight loss surgery.  Despite going downriver, we had to paddle the whole way against a strong headwind and, occasionally, disembark to pull the canoe through some shallow, rocky areas that stretched from bank to bank.  I am pleased to note that the canoe ran level, if not always true (um….my paddling/steering technique still needs work).  It was great fun and I can’t wait to try something more challenging next time.

Do you have any overlooked or long-forgotten WOW moments that you would like to share?

Not so much an over-looked WOW as an overlooked GOAL - I used to spend a great deal of time in the BWCA, taking at LEAST one trip up every summer.  I even worked for a large outfitter on the Gunflint Trail one summer, outfitting and guiding canoe trips for three and a half months.

I would LOVE to take my kids up there and give them an opportunity to experience what I personally believe is Heaven on earth - I can only imagine how WONDERFUL that experience would be, now that I'm not hauling the Titanic around on my feet!

(mental note to self...    work on that for summer 2010...)
