Hi!
I wanted to say hello! I am waiting to hear whether or not I will be approved for WLS and hopefully a date. I am going through Park Nicollet. I have so many questions! I was diagnosed with sleep apnea a couple of weeks ago and started sleeping with a cpap machine. I hate it! I haven't slept hardly at all all week. They informed me that if I don't use it, I can get turned down for surgery or if I stop using it later my insurance can make me pay for my surgery? Does anyone else have the cpap? Did you have these requirements? Any suggestions to make sleeping easier? I was told that I had mild apnea, it seems so drastic to have to wear this mask. Anyways, I will quit whining now. It's great to be here! =)
Hi! Welcome!! I had my band through Park Nicollet... it's a great clinic! Good to have you here!
Hi there, welcome to OH. I use a cpap machine, have for about 5 years. Within just a few days of use, I noted an increase in my energy and daytime awake time. Try to comply with using your machine. A repeat sleep study after weight loss may show that you no longer need to use the machine.
Sometimes, when having a hard time adjusting to the cpap, you may need to try a different mask. There are several styles and sizes available. Work with your cpap provider to find a mask that is tolerable for you. Quality sleep will help you in many aspects of your life. My husband won't go for a sleep study, I think he would benefit from a cpap as well, I know my sleep would be better without his snoring.
I didn't have to deal with your requirements, I was so happy with my improved quality of life. With more weight loss, I may be able to stop using mine some day as well. Wishing you the best of success. Hugs, Kathy

Welcome, Candy. It sounds like you and I are at about the same stage of the process. I'm going to go thru Park Nicollet, too. As for the cpap, I am not on one, but my husband is, and I can tell you that while it was hard for him to get used to at first, now, he won't go without it. He has so much more energy and is such a happier person. It's made such a big difference for him. Now, he has the energy to go exercise, which is helping him lose weight, too!
Good luck!
