Hairloss... need my OH friends for an pep talk
So I know it happens, I totally expected it.. but when it actually occurs.. its kind of an HUGE downer!
So how did you all deal with your hair during the hairloss period? Mine started a week or two ago... I went and bought Nioxin shampoo and conditioner and I swear the hairloss has slowed down, or it at least appears thicker... but its still happening.. and I don't have that thick of hair to begin with...
I know its just one of those things where you grin and bare it... but how did you deal? And how long did it last for you?

Sracy.....
This was tragic for me too as I have thin fine hair anyway. I tried the Nioxin...it didn't help. Some claim it does.
My surgeon said everyone is different and will lose different amounts of hair....he was right.
I started losing at about 4 weeks out and it lasted about a month. Now it has pretty much grown back in....even with a little wave if I want it to show.
Losing the weight was well worth losing the hair. Remember we notice it way more then anyone else does.
Eat plenty of protein!!!!!! Don't forget the vitamins etc...it will be fine.
Hugs....connie d

Hey Stacy,
I dealt with hair loss month 4-8... but I had thick hair to begin with so it didn't really show. I'm sorry you are going through this. I guess you can see this as just a side effect and that it's temporary and worth it to be skinny. Out with the old hair, in with the new, right? :) By the time you are at goal, you will have the NEW YOU with NEW HAIR! :)

Hair loss sucks, especially if you have thin or fine hair to start with. I started losing mine around month 4 and in the past month or so I've noticed it's really slowed down. I'm at 9 months. I didn't have a ton to start with either. With your hair being nice and short, you'll reap the benefits of the regrowth sooner than having longer hair. I went without highlighting for quite a while, afraid of damaging the hair that was still there. I swear I had 3"+ roots, and finally couldn't stand it any more. Maybe a stylist could help with color to give the illusion of more hair? Looking back I should have just continued w/ my hightlights. I think if it's gonna come out, it's gonna come out.

Yep, probably the worst thing about WLS (other than the butt nub hurt) is the hair loss. I have very little hair to begin with (been on rogaine since i was16). I lost a lot of hair - enough for people to make comments about it. Started at 3 months out and lasted until 10 or so months out. Nioxin didn't help and neither did biotin. Not looking forward to it again but nothing you can do about it.
Please spay and neuter your pets!

Thanks ladies
I know I'm not alone in this but it just sucks... I almost started crying about it last weekend... I swear I am not seeing as much come out... its not coming out in clumps.. just shedding alot... I'm going to keep on with the Nioxin.. it at least helps make my hair visually look thicker.. I also found a spray thickener I spray in before I blow dry that is helping it appear thicker too...
I really pumped up my protein.. I'm getting an average of 75g per day.. if I add a 2nd protein shake I get to 100... so I'm just going to really concentrate on that and getting in my vitamins and see where it leads too...
And you're right, I can deal with some hair loss if it means losing my excess weight!
By the way, you're all looking hot hot hot!
Thank you for the virtual hugs! I needed it!

Here i go, trying to put a positive spin on a depressing thing again...
The way I chose to look at it (and it IS a choice) - if I'm losing hair, I'm probably losing weight! YAY!!!
I'm not even kidding. If you bother to pay attention, you may actually notice a correlation between when the hair is actively falling out, and when you are actively dropping pounds. When you have a stall, pay attention. When you're losing, pay attention. You MAY just learn to CELEBRATE the hair loss as a GOOD THING!
Fake it 'til you make it, baby, it will grow back - mine came in rather curly!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
I noticed my hair is shedding more often or in higher quantities than normal. It doesn't bother me except I just wi**** was less annoying. I hate shampoo'ing and conditioning my hair and running my fingers through it and coming out with strands tangled on my fingers. I'm more annoyed with that than the hair actually coming out!! I have thick hair so I don't expect to be having it thin out a whole lot but it's somewhat annoying.
I'm at just over 3 months out and noticed it more and more over the last few weeks. I figure if it's going to happen let it happen. Most people experience it so I'm glad it's not one of those weird "omg, I'm the only one this is happening to!!!"
