Looking for folks in the twin ports area
Hi there!
I'm starting the process of weight loss screening (through SMDC) and have read some posts on here. I really agreed with the post about having the MMPI results thoroughly explained and given to patients before surgery. I had my screening earlier this week and will go for my follow-up tomorrow.
I am working through the St. mary's/Duluth clinic system, has anyone else on here been through this program? Any tips/hints for a new chic?
:)

Hi Kelly, Yes, I have been through the program, just over 2 weeks since my RNY. No major tips on the MMPI or the follow-up except just be yourself and give honest answers. How long does your insurance require for pre surgical supervised weight loss. A lot of us needed 6 months of supervised dieting as part of the insurance requirements. I went to my seminar in Feb. and had my surgery on 9/2, so glad I did all the requirements.
Ask all the questions you have, follow the recommendations, get off the soda, caffeine and cigarettes if these are on your list of habits. Post often, read lots of posts, and ask for answers to any questions you may have.
Welcome to the next step for health. Hugs, Kathy

Hi Kelly,
I am going through the process too.
I went to the WLS Seminar at ST Mary's in July.
I have Health Partners for insurance and they require that you go through a class through them before surgery and followup after surgery. There are 5 phone call sessions before surgery and I have just completed my 1st call.
But the clinic scheduled me to see a dietician every month and I have an appointment to see a weight loss doctor, Dr. Park. I think they are just checking to see If I am willing to do everything they say? A lot of it is repetition.
I hope to have surgery in December, but I am not sure it might take longer. The waiting is hard.
I live 25 miles South of Duluth.

Hi Kelly,
I'm going through the process at SMDC currently. Dr. Pitt will be my surgeon. I completed all insurance requirements on Aug. 19th, was approved for surgery on the 21st and I am now schedule for surgery in 16 days! (10/5)
She will give great recommendations for you during the follow-up. She will probably recommend attending the support group on the 4th Thursday of each month. I have yet to make it to one but I hope to do so this month!
Julie the Nut is great too and very encouraging. Listen to her suggestions and do your best to get on schedule from the get go. It will help you in the long run!
If you have any questions just let me know or email me!
Take care,
Shannon

HI there! I went through SMDC...wow almost 5 yrs ago now. The Dr's are different now as are probably all of the nurses etc... but everything was very smooth for me. One suggestion I have is to either go to their support groups even preop and or visit this site often. There's a lot of good information at both places. We used to do a Duluth coffee get together but haven't done it in a while. We could do that again sometime if there's interest. My husband also just had lap band done over at St Luke's in June. He's doing very well also.
