I know I'm still losing and I still have 3 mons left of my honeymoon period...

I need a new winter jacket.. I'm down 3.. almost 4 sizes on top and I am wondering how long before winter hit that any of you bought a jacket... Plus I'm a big freeze baby and I want to look cute and fashionable and I don't want to wait till the last minute and get the left overs no one else wanted.. I figured I'd buy one that I just fit into since I'll still be losing.

I've been looking at Marshalls and TJ Maxx for good deals and I was just online shopping at Burlington Coat ...

Just looking for some feedback...

Stacy

Have you tried any thrift stores? Unique in Burnsville has been indispensible for me when my sizes were changing so fast. I even gotten, gasp, fashionable clothes there.

I had my surgery Dec 1 and by the end of the winter, my coat was indeed too big but I just stuck it out. I'm lucky that most of my dramatic size changes happened when no coat was needed. Just finally bought a new coat that I'm hoping I'll be able to wear for a few years at TJ Maxx.

You might try the upcoming swapkins.

Maybe hold out for a few more weeks and buy one that "just" fits. Until it gets very cold you won't have to worry about buttoning it up and by that time, you'll be fitting into it perfectly I would think.

The so-called "honeymoon" period for me is still going at 10 and a half months out, so don't worry too much about your weight loss ending at 6 months as long as ;you keep following the rules.

Hope that helps a bit.

I would suggest thrift stores.  I just saw some cute capes out there (maybe Macy's or Kohl's) that look very warm and are not fitted.    I had my surgery in Sept, and by mid-winter my coat was so big that the cold wind was whipping up/down my coat.  I was freezing!!  I bought something new then, but got it on clearance because it was mid-season.  Maybe a swapkins coming up might have something too.

Last year I found this really cute winter coat that was originally $120 on sale at JC Penny for  $35 granted it was a little late in the season but I think it was January so still plenty of winter left.  I think you really just need to watch for sales.

I have looked at a few thrift stores and found nothing that wasn't either used more than I wanted or not a style I cared to wear.  Thanks for the feedback.Burlington has coats advertised at $50 normally $120+ so I think I'll go look there.. Stacy

Stacy: A friend of my youngest son moved to one of the southern states a few years ago and left his snowboarding coat  at our house for some reason.  I, well, ...appropriated it last winter.  I don't think I looked all that cool wearing it, but it was really warm, it doesn't look too bad and the price was right.  I did find some snowboard wax in one of its many pockets, which made me worry about what else I might find, but all was well.

Good luck,

Stacy, honey, I'm sorry to tell you it is still 80 degrees out!   I'm kidding (kind of) but I can't bear the thought of looking for winter clothes yet.  Maybe wait a month and then buy something tight!  Or, a swing coat that will get you through winter.  They are so cute with anything, long or short ones.   That said, congratulations on your weight loss; you are doing great!

I finally broke down and bought a sweater set this week at TurnStyle.  It was my first purchase but I'd been able to drag old clothes out of storage as I was this size 5 years ago after losing 25 and then gaining 50!

At the end of winter I went clearance shopping and found a hip length hooded black wool coat on sale for $19.99. Was $150.00. The only size they had left in black was a small. My mother looked at me and said, you just might be giving that thing away next winter if you buy a small! Well...my gosh, that sounded like a challenge to me. Hmm she doesn't think I can get into this coat does she?? lol
Happy to say, it was not a wasted $19.99
I would check swapkins for coats. I was very fortunate to get through last winter with some wonderful coats someone donated. I can't wait until winter clearance again this year..the deals are just amazing. For once, I don't feel like I should just throw on anything. I want a coat in every color and fabric now.

Stacy - I'm with ya, shall we coat shop together?

Last year, before surgery, I bought a gorgeous white spring coat to wear this year - size Large, on clearance at Kohl's from $100 down to 10 BUCKS!! I wore it just a handful of times and now it's too big. So, I learned from that experience that I am going to wait closer to the time I actually need a winter coat, and then find one. I'm hoping this isn't until like November or December! My ultimate goal is to be able to wear a North Face down jacket, but I'm definitely waiting on that purchase until I know I'm at goal.

On a side note, Target had zip fleece jackets in the athletic department recently. I picked one up because I figured it would get me through the chillier evenings for now. What I love most about it is that it's got loops on the wrist cuff, the loops are for your thumbs to go through and then the sleeve/cuff comes down a bit more to cover your hands but not fingers. I hope that makes sense. But, I just love it. I think they were about $24.

Ooh another random though...Nordstrom Rack just opened in Maple Grove BTW. That might be a fun place to check out. Though I don't remember where you live, so forgive me if that's too far out of your way.

Happy Shopping!

We were at the MOA last weekend and they have a really neat "thrifty" store there (Can't recall the name) but they had racks and racks of cool stuff for rather cheap.  Maybe check that out.

I know my coat from last year doesn't fit and I am VERY MUCH kicking my own ass because I donated a smaller coat I had that didn't use to fit (but would TOTALLY fit now). =( Son of a ...
