Too bad we can't live on apples alone! New apple review

So I thought I was in love with Honey Crisp, but now my love is split.  After all the news about Sweetango, of course I've been dying to try one.

A co-worker brought one in from Pepin Heights today for me to try and on my way to work I stopped at Jerry's Foods in Eden Prairie and picked up two Minneiska apples.  The produce man said it is the same as Sweetango, just doesn't have the brand name.  True, they are VERY close and both VERY good and super juicy and crunchy.  But, at $2.99/LB for Sweetango vs $.99/LB for Minneiska at Jerry's, I'll go with Minneiska.

If you live near the Jerry's in Edina or EP, you should try one before they're gone.  I'll be going back to Jerry's to stock up.  I was GOOGLEing Minneiska and Sweetango and it does seem the name of the tree that produces Sweetango IS Minneiksa.

Too bad apples aren't full of protein! I would eat them breakfast lunch and dinner this time of year.

They have them at Kowalski's in EP, too.  Haven't tried them yet, but glad for the positive review.

I have always loved apples!  And I have 2 honeycrisp trees in my back yard that are LOADED this year (first year they've actually produced!) with the best flippin' apples I've ever eaten!  But I'm always up to try something new, I'll have to look for this new variety when I go shopping later today!

Thanks for the heads up!!

I'm waiting to try the SweeTango, too.  I picked up another new variety at the Mpls Farmer's market this weekend-- Ginger Gold.  Nice, crisp, good blend between sweet and tart, and small--  one apple is actually a 'serving'!

Wow thanks for the FYI... I'll have to look for the "cheaper" version at my local supermarket...

Talk about a difference in price just for a name!

It's this time of year that i miss just a little drizzle of ewwwy gooey caramel on apples though!

APPLES!!! uggggg!

It is apple harvest weekend at my house! One tree with a ton of apples. I will with the help of my SIG OT be making apple butter...apple pie filling and apple sauce this weekend. This is an every other year deal, for that I am thankful!

My favorite is the Heraldson apple, tart and sweet with a nice crisp form. That is what my tree is closet to, so all is good in that world.

If anyone is near Fargo today, come on over the apples are waiting! LOL

I agree with Kristy,  I would eat apples breakfast, lunch and dinner.  I've heard all the buzz about Sweetango.  I'll be checking the local markets.  My favorite is Haroldson.  They are harvested late and won't be in the stores for another couple of weeks.  I bought Honey Crisp today.  I love this time of year.

Mmmm - yummm, thanks for the review, Kristy!

We had some awesome apples today from Bob's Produce in Fridley, but my sister couldn't remember which one's they were. I'll have to check for the one's you mentioned next time!
