Post-Op newbie
Well, I had a successful gastric rny on Tuesday morning at United Hospital with Dr. Peter Kelly. Tuesday actually went really well and I kept thinking how easy the whole thing had been. I had my catheter out and was walking around by dinner time. Then came Wednesday. I felt like I'd been hit by a Mack truck and was already beginning to wonder what the hell I'd voluntarily done to myself. I was able to go home yesterday after lunch and spend my son's 7th birthday with him. Everyone was eating pizza and cake and ice cream. I figured it would bother me, but it really didn't. I am still too bloated to really care for food (which is good, since I'm only allowed clear liquids).
Thank you to everyone for the well wishes. I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm home now and going through my first experience with buyer's remorse. I'm still pretty uncomfortable, but have been sipping and walking as much as I can.
I assume it is very normal at this stage to not be able to get a lot of liquids in, correct? And I know it will get better. I'm just at that point where I'm feeling sorry for myself and wondering what the hell I was thinking. I can't wait to look back on this post in a few weeks and wish I hadn't been such a baby about the whole thing.

Dianne-
I'm glad to hear that you were able to be home for your son's birthday. The good news is that the Mack Truck will shrink down to a Smart Car in no time!!
As for the fluids- I put a bottle of water out (room temperature was easier) and set a time frame for when I wanted to have it gone. You may also want to try Isopure from GNC- it is high proteing and counts as fluid too. I mixed it with water, because the flavor was too strong for me.
Good luck and keep coming here to update us and ask any and all questions!

Diane, I had lap RNY surgery on the 12th of August. So far, knock on wood, I have not had any problems and feel really well. I have told myself this is something I have wanted to do for years and I am so thankful that the time has come that I can finally feel like I can live & feel healthy. For 30 some years I have been an obese person & I hope the next 30 years I am able to live the size of a 5'1" healthy woman.
Be strong and remember today is just the 21st and you had surgery on the 18th. Will be thinking of you and hope you are on the road to mend.

YAY!! Glad to hear all went well!!!
Dianne,
First off, I am so happy for you that you are now on the recovery road. I, too, will be at United soon (dont have a date yet) with Dr. Rup at St.Paul surgeons.
I really want you to know that you have support on here. You can email me anytime, I am on the computer all day for my work. I am sure you are feeling a little "under the weather". You WILL feel better soon! We are here for you Dianne!
1 year from now, you will be the healthy woman you want to be!!!!!

CONGRATS to you, and welcome to the bench! I was thinking about you while I was in pre-op myself Tuesday, sent up a few
for all to go well.
I was pretty dang uncomfortable for the first 10 days or so, kept praying someone would puncture my torso with a pitchfork to let all the pressure out!
Now? Well, those few days of yuck don't even register anymore. Nope - 160 pounds lighter, I'd say I'd do it annually if that's what it took.
(But THANK GOD it doesn't!!!)
