I Hate Crutches!
I fell in the parking lot at work, and messed up my knee and ankle. 5 xrays later, they are both just bruised and sprained, as is my pride for falling, but at least I can get around on the crutches now, and got some pain meds. I am hoping they kick in real quick. The swelling is really throbbing. UGH to top it off, my husband is out of town this weekend and my poor 10 year old DD has to take care of disabled mommy.

Ugh, so you both know what I am talking about. My poor arms hurt almost as much as the knee and ankle, and I haven't been up and about much at all. The pain meds worked last night, today I was nauseous and sweaty, almost like I was dumping, so I am not sure what I am going to do. It only lasted 30 min. today instead of all day like last week when I took pain meds for my back . Did either of you notice a difference when you took pain meds post op as opposed to pre op. Before surgery I could take 2 vicodin no prob, now I take one and almost want to die, took darvocet preop, waste of time, now I take it, can't feel my legs, they get cold and I feel like a crack addict. lol

Nicole,
sorry to hear about your fall!! Hope it gets better soon and you can throw away the crutches!!
I get to experience crutches for the first time in my life on Thursday! I am having my knee operated on and they tell me I will be on crutches... I am not looking forward to it after all I have heard about them!! Can't help ya on the pain meds, not sure how they will be for me....We'll see.
Take Care,
Carol

Carol, sorry to hear about the upcoming surgery! I've had two arthroscopic surgeries they weren't too bad but the healing was slow.I am hoping to be off crutches by Mon. or Tues. we shall see. Just take it VERY slow on the crutches and don't plan on going very far.I had to go grocery shopping yesterday because we were out of a lot of essentials and Bryce is gone. My arms are killing me today and every so many steps I had to stop and rest.

I was on crutches a lot in HS and always remember my doc saying "if your armpits hurt, you're using the crutches incorrectly" and he'd show me how to use them again, and voila, no more hurt. Did they show you how to use them properly, Nicole? It seems brainless, but really a little difference or adjustment can go a long way!
And why oh why didn't you use the electric cart at the grocery store? That's what they're there for silly!
Happy healing!

Had a couple of knee surgeries and a sprained ankle in the past, so I do remember how to use them. My armpits are fine, but the upper part of my arms are burning from using muscles I didn't know I had. I thought about using the electric cart, but I was afraid I would run someone over with it, so I suffered through lol. Not getting much better today, so thinking tomorrow I may end up going back in and having them look at it again. We shall see. Hubby came home for 12 hours yesterday, long enough for my DD to get a break from nursing duty, now he is back on the road again until next weekend. What timing!
