Thursday: How Are You Moving Today?
I have some errands to run before work today, so I rode 8 miles on my bike this morning instead of the usual 14. I did push myself to the point that my lungs and legs were burning by the time I got back home. I also tried staying in one gear for the whole ride. Amongst young bike enthusiasts, riding a fixed gear or "fixie" bike is quite popular. While you can buy a fixie, it is more common to convert an old bike, which I have been considering for the purpose of late season commuting when Northstar rail service starts this fall. With a fixie, either the pedals are turning or your rear tire is skidding; there is no rear freewheel. Some people go with no brakes at all or only a front one. Crazy! Yet a light weight, stripped down, low maintenance bike is an appealing concept, especially if the bike will be ridden in snow or on ice. Enough of this aside....how are moving today?
