I have to agree with the medication mention. You need to find the right one and work closely with a psychologist to find the right "****tail" if you will.. It can take awhile, sometimes up to a year or two to find the right mix of meds to work correctly with your body chemistry. Just like our pouch is our weightloss battle tool, many times meds are the tool you need to battle depression, anxiety, mood disorders, etc.  You need that tool along with the counseling and support groups, etc.

Psych major here.. and yes, also giving my 2 cents...

Thank you for your 2 cents......I have been really hesitant to go back on anti-depressants, but you folks have me wondering if I should anyway.

I have no first hand experience with mood meds, other than my mother being on Paxil.   But if I find myself heading in that direction, I don't believe I'd hesitate.  Better Living Through Chemistry, right?

This whole WLS journey, while wonderful in so many ways, does NOTHING to fix the issues that exist outside of our obesity.  I am dealing with things this year that have been testing me to my very core - not only testing my strength to endure crap, but also forcing me to question my once iron-clad priorities in life.

I just hope that you and others don't step BACK from support when you need it most - that seems to be something of a theme within this community...

This whole sharing your **** thing is scary......although I seem to have gotten past the fear of farting in the presence of other people, so maybe this won't be so bad.

Hi there, Sorry to hear that you have some struggles. I think its great that you can acknowledge that you have issues and depression. Acknowledgement is key. I also think its great that you can understand what some of your issues are and ways that you can improve on those. I know that going through changes is the hardest part and can cause conflict through the process. Relying on others to offer support through these times I believe are important to be successful. I wish you all the best as you manage through this time. HUGS TO YOU!!
God Bless, Angela

RP,

I am also going to put my 2 cents in for the medications.  If they aren't working for you (or haven't in the past), as was said in an earlier post, you haven't found the right one(s). Depression isn't anything to "play" with. I'm not saying that you are playing with it, but I have seen it happen too many times (in myself as well) that it gets away from a person and they need the meds before they realize they do, and then it takes even longer for things to balance out.  Get thee to an MD asap, and get started on something to help you.  It is amazing what they can do.  I agree with the statement (but slightly different, is my motto) "Better living through Pharmicuticals".  They really can help.

And yes, you have our support here, just like anyone else does!

Thank you for your advice and encouragement.  I don't want this depression thing to get away from me, either, but I am admittedly stubborn about such things, so all of you telling me to re-consider taking anti-depressants has me questioning that stubbornness.
