scheduled! but having problems losing pre-op weight

So...I'm scheduled.  I am 5 months into my 6 required dietician visits and I have lost just a couple of pounds.  I need to lose 15 prior to surgery and I am completely frustrated with myself.

I have a newly diagnosed thyroid issue which was discovered last August, and since then I have really been unable to lose weight.  I take meds for the thyroid, which has stopped my hair falling out(yay that was fun) but I just cannot get the pounds off.

I tried WW, slimfast, valuemetrics among others and was either super hungry(thyroid) or super tired...

My PCP recommends Optifast, but that is $1400! and $150 a week.  Has anyone had luck with this liquid diet?

My sister tried something similar in New Zealand prior to her surgery and she lost a lot of weight, but it wasn't so expensive.

Any other ideas would be AWESOME!

It's hard to get off your surgeons required weight. I had to lose 10 and had the 6 month diet thing before surgery too. I didn't lose the majority of my 10 pounds until several weeks before my date. I think it was all mental. Fear of never having stuff I liked to eat ever again. Don't let that control you. You want to have surgery and you HAVE to lose the 15 pounds.   You can try having 2-3 protein shakes a day and one higher protein smart ones or lean cuisine, plus 2 snacks being fruit or veggie, you'll lose.  You just have to stick to your plan. You don't need Optifast.  You can do it!

Don't feel like you are the only one in this situation!!  I am on month 4 and have only lost 8 or the 20 pounds I need to.  Some days I feel like a failure and other days I know I am trying but just not eating the right things.  Grieving my upcoming food loss maybe?  I don't really know.  I've thought all along I have my head around all of this!!  I do have to do a two week liquid diet starting Aug. 5 and hope that boost the scale the other direction!
Just keep working on it and be true to yourself about what you are eating.  Do you exercise?  I am terrible at it.  My knees and ankle bother me tremendously at this stage.  If you don't I know that would help get you a few extra pounds.

Just hang in there.  I have found this board a wealth of support.

I did a 2 week pre-op diet to lose 10lbs.. even though I didn't have to lose any before surgery.

I drank 3 protein shakes a day... thats it.. and I lost 12lbs..

first 2-3 days are tough, after that you are over the sugar, carb, and caffeine cravings. between shakes I drank non-caloric non-caffeinated liquids. It melted off..

You can either buy tubs of protein powder to make shakes yourself or you can buy cases of the pre-made pre-packaged ones ( I did that to simplify it)... at Sam's Club they are about $26 a case for EAS carb control chocolate.. or I believe Costco carries some too...

Its tough but it was the best thing I could have done.. Those two weeks REALLY prepared me for surgery and got me off of all the "bad" foods I was eating and helped clean out my body to start a new eating program post-op...

Optifast Schmoptifast.  You can do a liquid diet of your own WISE creation (similar to those already suggested here).   If you did Optifast, all you'd lose is a big chunk of change!  I have had thyroid issues for years, and on my 10-day pre-op liquid diet, I lost 14 pounds.

YOU CAN DO IT!  If having WLS is the prize at the end, it's worth every bit of effort it takes!!!

I wasn't required to lose weight but had to do the 2 week liquid diet and I lost 30 lbs.  If you can't do the liquid diet (it was really hard) just try to really increase your protein and try to eat as low amount of sugar/carbs as you can.   This will also help you get use to your new eating style after surgery.
