I am just not getting enough protiend...I can't stomach any of the drinks/shakes....UGH!!

I am down 13 pounds since surgery, so that I guess makes me happy, but hell if I want to be thinner and bald from lack of protien...sniff sniff!!!!

(I did have 2 dreams about me being thin and bald, it was more of a nightmare!)

It is still early days for you.  Just try and stay hydrated.  What does your program recommend you eat?

I don't think I am getting enough protein either, so I actually stopped at GNC today after work and bought a cold bottle of Isopure Apple Melon protein drink.  Pretty good, 40 g of protein.  I too am sick of milk based shakes, so this was a nice change of pace.  Worth a try!

My first question is what about them can't you "stomach"?? Is it the milk? Is it the taste? Is it consistency? What about them can't you handle?  Some people become lactose intolerant after surgery and the milk is the culprit. Many people have to try many protein powders until they find the one that works for them both taste and consistency wise. Are you using milk or water to make them? There are so many factors to the protein shake thing post op. You can also buy prepackaged ones from Target, Walmart, Costco, or Sams Club. They tend to be smoother and easier to get down, almost like chocolate milk. Your other option is to try making them with soy milk.. it works for some like magic.

I'd contact your NUT/go in and talk about how to get protein other ways if you can't stomach the protein shakes.

The first two weeks post op I relied on the Isopure pre-bottled drinks to get 40g of protein from them per day, plus what I could eat.  They aren't the greatest in the world as far as taste, but they sure do the trick for getting protein in.  Apple melon and the blue raspberry ones I found to be the best, the grape is somewhat tolerable.

Well I will try those 2 flavors of isopure....I can't tolerate the taste, consistency or the smell of the shakes! I go see my nutritionist tomorrow, we will see what she has to say.

much like the liquid diet - this is just a short hop in your new life...  I don't think there are many that relish the drinks  lol  just plug your nose and do it lol  I'm sure your Nut will come up with some good ideas too.  It's what they are there for!  Call her/him when you are wondering about something - I know mine was a great "go to" gal  :)
