You're fine.

While I was in Hawaii, I did something that I never could have physically done at 300lbs.... I SURFED!! (Photo below)

After my first wave ride, I paddled back to the trainer (imagine super tan surfer with long blonde hair and a Hawaiian accent) and got ready to ride again. As we were waiting for the wave, I said, "It's really hard to hop up from lying down onto my knees. I think it's because of my weight." He quickly cut in and said, "You're fine." I started to say that at least I've lost some weight and he cut me off and said, "You're fine. You are fine. Between you, me and the waves... you are fine. It's all up in here (pointing to his head)."

I knew he was talking about my image of myself... and it just really hit me like a wave (hehe)... he was right... it IS all in my head. My head creates the barriers that I set for myself.

I don't know... maybe it's not as inspirational to you all as it was to me.. but I just think that a stranger saying it so bluntly really put me in my place.

Oh... ha ha... and here's a photo:

How cool is that!  I don't think I could hop up from lying position on the board, no way! Keep challenging yourself with new things and your brain will eventually quit putting up those barriers.

Funny, I see someone's foot in front of you and the man behind is checking out your a$$ !  :-)

You have NO idea HOW inspirational that story is!  I'm pre-op, so to me the idea of that (surfing) is outrageous.  I'll be glad when I can step up a curb, use steps without railings, go places and not worry if I can fit in the seat.  And a whole host of other things I've had to worry about.
  You are a miracle!

That's so awesome girl! Thanks for once again inspiring me to keep my head up and trucking along on this mind/body transformation! You always seem to be able to pick up my spirits when I feel like I'm trudging through a bunch of mud...

Congrats Elena!

What a great photo ! Just to think of trying to do that 100 pounds ago!  What a huge accompishment for you.  Last night at valleyfair, I was on my 10th trip up the stairs to the waterslide, and just slightly out of breath I thought a year ago, I wouldnt even be here.

Thanks for sharing !

First let me say YOU LOOK WONDERFUL!!!

I didn't see you running anyone over - I saw the guy behind you checking you out  lol  CUTE!!

There is so much in our heads... I got told a while back I still walk the way I did back over 300 lbs...  strange.  I guess I haven't re-evaluated my personal space yet.  I still find it hard to believe that I can fit through various spaces.  or like you, that I can lift myself up.

I'm proud of you and inspired by you for the many things that you have put yourself out there with.  Your skiing and surfing and just all the wonderful things that you do!  Thank you.

What a great post!

Yep - we are ALL FINE.  Or we will be.  Those of you who are pre-op and don't feel so fine, keep the faith and soon you will be.

Remember, your head needs to be fine before your body is.
