I was hoping I could get some suggestions for what to buy at the grocery store this weekend in preparation for my post-op diet.

Did your surgeon tell you how many grams of protein to eat every day?  My surgeon insists on 70-80 grams.  For me (my surgery is Tuesday) I was told that I will need to focus on drinking my protein and lots of water.  Your body needs tons of protein to heal and to keep your body from wasting post-RNY.  So, make sure your surgeon tells you what he expects.  Slim-Fast has too many carbs for what my surgeon allows.  He told me to drink Iso-Pure or Syntrax.

Regular slimfast only has 10g of protein and it has 34 grams of SUGAR and a total of 40 carbs.  One can = 220 calories.  To get in your 80 grams of protein, you would have to drink 8 cans of slimfast and that would equal 1760 calories, which is probably way more than your doctor recommends.

Slim fast makes a low-carb formula and it has 20 grams of protein and only 6 carbs.  But, it has nine grams of fat.

Syntrax has zero fat, zero sugar, and zero carbs while it has 23 grams of protein for a total of only 90 calories.

Your surgeon should be giving you a list of dietary instructions.  Mine gives me a class when I am released from the hospital.  But, since i wanted to shop before surgery, he told me to buy Syntrax and his office will be stocking me up on calcium and vitamins.

Best of luck to you.

Chris

They provided a list of foods for the first 3 weeks.  I will start adding protien supplements at 4days post-op 20gr at first then slowly up it to 40-60gr per day.
