My DUH moment!

I am 6 days post op and am on liquids for 1 more week. My post-op instructions say to drink 6-1/2 cup meals a day. Well I was wondering why I was feeling so worn out about 2 this afternoon. I had only drank 1 meal and that was at around 10 this morning! DUH! I figured I should be eating about every 2-3 hours so I don't have that "crash". It's amazing how much better I felt after I drank!

It will get easier with time. Once you get in a routine everything just falls into place. You are right...you feel better with nourishment!

Have a good day...don't forget to drink plenty of water!!

Congratulations on your surgery.  It's hard to get into the new swing of things.  When you actually have to pay attention to when and how much you eat.  But you'll get the hang of it soon and it will become second nature.  I remember the first weeks were difficult.  But keep in mind that this is the healing time and it won't last forever.  You've given yourself a wonderful gift.  You're doing great!!

They aren't DUH moments. Just a learning curve, that's all. We all have had those moments. Be sure to keep up on the water, too.

On another note, you asked about foamies. Its this awful thicker-white saliva stuff that comes up when something gets stuck or feels like it upsets your stomach. It has a rancid taste. Some people have it, others don't. I had it only once when I got a tiny piece of shrimp stuck. Never again. Just the taste in my mouth was horrible. I felt like I was foaming at the mouth.

Doing great, Lynn!!!! Enjoy these last few days before you go back to work. Besides - the weather is beautiful so heal in the sun.

Yes it is hard to get into a routine. I've never had to actually plan my meals before but I will get used to it.

I'm looking forward to next week when I can start on the soft diet -- I'm sooo tired of liquids, I've been on them for what seems like forever but  I understand the purpose.

Didn't you get any kind of list of the soft foods you can eat? If you want to start the foods on Monday, maybe you should call your nutritionist this week? Just a suggestion.

I agree, eggs and refried beans sound great!!

They do give you alot of paperwork!

What kind of protein shakes are you not able to drink?  I've been having SlimFast, Special K protein shakes and Ensure (not my favorite) and they all seem to settle fine.
