Parental/WLS dilema???

I was going through my surgery paperwork yesterday and rereading all of the info.  When it struck me that I need to find the paperwork for my daughters appt.  (For those who are not aware my 2 y.o. has special needs).  As I'm reading the appt letter I realize it is scheduled for JULY 23RD!  My surgery is the 21st.  The appt for Halle was made MONTHS ago for an Autism Screening.....it is just as hard to get in for one of those as it is to get WLS........LOL.........so I'm wondering if I should reschedule my surgery or try to wing it through Halle's screening 2 days post op........Rescheduling Halle's appt is not even an option.........I need to make sure she has a diagnosis so we can get her all the therapy and resources she has available ASAP.  I could probably delay my surgery for 1 or 2 weeks.....I want my surgery........but I can't postpone this appt for my child.....I am thinking I will just wing it and have a driver.......
Any advice????

I was just being released from the hospital two days post-op!  I think it would be in your best interest to make some changes in your schedule.  Even if you are released from the hospital early enough for the appt. you could be in too much pain to sit through the screening and get anything out of it.  My body reacts very differently to narcotics than it did before surgery.  Prior to WLS I could take them and they knocked out the pain but I functioned the same as I did without them.  Now they kick my butt.  I am a total zombie and oblivious to the world when I am taking them.  Should the same thing happen to you, you would be useless to the doctors at your daughter's screening.

I know you really dont want to but in my opinion i would delay yours.... im 3 days post-op today and there is no way i could drive right now.  Im still taking narcotics for pain and it isnt a pretty site

I'm almost 4 weeks out.. and although I felt "great" 2 days post op but I was very tired from the anesthesia and your body is in healing mode. Also, I wasn't on pain meds at that point but my stomach muscles were very sore and I didn't feel like driving or doing anything for the first few days. I think you'd be pushing yourself too hard to get to it. Plus you're going to want all your attention on that appointment for your daughter, and if you're in any discomfort from your own sugery, tired, or spacey from pain meds, you're not going to be giving it your full attention.

I'd delay your surgery until after her appointment.

Thanks everyone, I just don't think I can change my surgery appt.  I need to have this surgery before school starts so my eldest child is home to help with the little one.  If I wait I can't do it until mid August and that doesn't leave me the saftey net I need with time.....just in case anything goes wrong....I think i will try to manage both appts at this point....I'm going to call MPLS Childrens on Monday and see what exactly their expectations are from me and go from there.....I know I can do whatever I need to do to make all this happen.....

I wouldn't be driving....grandma will.  I just don't want to keep myself cooped up in my house even right after surgery.  I have had enough surgery to know that the more sedentary you are afterwards the longer and harder the recovery, I will also ask the nurse on Monday what she thinks too....I wont do anything to jeapordize my recovery if that is what it takes.

Where there is a will there is a way. I say, keep both appointments.
I would call the clinic that is evaluating your child and see if there is any pre-paperwork that you could fill out prior to the appointment.  Also, take some time to make notes about your concerns, child's behavior etc. incase for some reason you don't get there.  Make sure your Mom knows what your questions are, so she can speak for your if necessary.

I had a lap RYN and I  was home about 24 hours after the surgery.  I  didn't take any pain medication at home except  at night to help with sleep.
Just my opinion,  everyone is different but I think that for a few hours, you could make it through the appointment with your daugther-  it's not a marathon.
Good luck!

I'd call the clinic back and ask if they have any other surgery dates just a few days later... see what happens.

The dilema I have with changing the date to a couple of days later is that I would need to have additional PTO to take off work.  I only work weekends and would only need to take off 1 weekend if I keep the date I have, if I wait even a couple more days I will have to take off 2 weekends.  I don't have the PTO!  I understand I may still need to take additional time off but I've got things timed perfectly at this point.........I will definately check though.......Thanks!
