Reality check re: weight "gain"

I was freaked out because on Monday, I was up nearly 5 lbs. I had eaten a bunch of cheese curds and sausage on Sunday (though in reality, wasn't that much) and was terrified I'd screwed things up totally. Thankfully this morning I was back down to 158.

But what I realized is this: in the few days (or heck even weeks) before I gained the 5 lbs, I know I didn't eat the extra 17500 extra calories required to gain 5 lbs of fat. Heck, I haven't eaten an extra 3500 calories required to gain 1 pound.

I know this seems like common sense but I just wanted to share this as a reminder that our weight fluctuates for many reasons.  I probably was retaining a heck of a lot of water. But just keep things in perspective when the scale goes up or doesn't move.

I weigh myself every morning-but I don't freak out about a bump of a few pounds, I give myself a 10lb leeway since I know I can fluctuate that much in a week-especially if I eat anything SALTY.   I am 4 yrs out, and this has helped me to stay in check and not gain back any of the weight I have lost!

I weigh a few times a week and for the first time since surgery, my weight was higher Monday by 1 pound than it was Thursday.  I KNOW why.  I wasn't eating enough calories over the long weekend AND I was eating too many carbs.  We were out of town, I didn't track my food on the Daily Plate like I've been doing EVERY DAY since February, and didn't really eat structured meals focusing on protein.  I'm sure the gain is water weight, I hope to see that pound and more gone by tomorrow morning.

Thank you for this post.  I have been stalled and even gained 3 pounds and have been confused.  It helps to read others having the same/similar issues and reasoning.

Thanks again,
Sandy

It doesn't help matters that I so want to see 157 on the scale. Then I'm down a full 140 lbs. I know not to get stuck on a number, heck I think if i didn't have the extra skin, I'd be at my goal weight.

And I think i feel a bit more desperate (or frantic?) because I'm 8 lbs from my major goal weight of 149. I think i want things to hurry up more than ever. Just to be "done" though I know it's never done. I just so want to not have overweight or obese on my medical chart anymore and at 149.5, I will have a "normal" bmi. I know the bmi isn't all that representative of what you really are but darn it, I want that goal.

Don't worry, I'm keeping things in perspective most days. I'm truly grateful for where I am and how far I've come.
