Today's deep thought -
~ When our memories outweigh our dreams, we have grown old. ~ Bill Clinton
Okay - so, what's your favorite memory of summertime in your childhood?
What's your favorite dream for the future?
For me, I always loved catching critters in Purgatory creek, which ran right by my house. I spent ENDLESS days in that creek, with frogs and turtles and crayfish... walking up and down it - sometimes alongside, sometimes right smack down the middle of it. I caught a leopard frog hanging by our backyard pool yesterday, and it really brought me back
As for my favorite dream? Being completely content with what I have, not always feeling "want". Oh sure, I want to go on a cruise. I want to have someone come in and deep clean my house once every couple of months. I want to be able to afford to eat crab legs whenever the heck I feel like it. But mostly, I want to be content with what is already mine.

First, I want to tell you Darla, since I'm new here - I find your story and mostly your honesty, inspiring. Thank you.
My favorite summertime memory was when it was so hot we got to sleep downstairs on the living room floor or on the front porch with fans blowing over us. With 6 kids in the family, it was like a slumber party!
I agree with your favorite dream - I'd like to be content. But also, being on this side of the surgery, I'm dreaming of the day when I can move freely and be more active.

I'm down 120 pounds - thanks to RNY! Working on the next 25. Then I'll tackle more...

What's your favorite memory of summertime in your childhood?
I don't remember much from my childhood (bad memory?) but I do love thinking back to picking blueberries in the forests in Latvia. I love just spending the day there and walking around and stuffing my face with blueberries.
What's your favorite dream for the future?
My favority dream of the future is to be able to wear whatever I want in the summer. Short sleeve? SURE! Short? SURE!! Anything and everything. That doesn't mean getting to goal weight either... that just mean allowing myself to be comfortable in my skin.

Hey Darla. I'm slowly creeping back into the OH support. Your post has made me think about the great times I had as a child.
I remember walking 5 blocks, completely barefoot, to the local swimming pool. I would swim from 1p-5p, run home for dinner, then back at the pool from 7-9. Every day. I never complained about being bored. I never complained about walking 5 blocks - on hot tar streets barefoot (gosh, I was stupid). Now my girls complain about walking 5 blocks one day a week to the library. Its as if I've asked them to talk 12 miles in 120 degree weather.
My dream for the future? To continue being active and remaining healthy. I moved from the hustle and bustle of the cities to small town USA. My dream of letting my girls be able to explore our home town without feeling like a prisoner in the cities. That was my biggest dream. And it is finally coming true. And my dream of being happy in my own life - I'm finally putting that as a priority in my life. I've purged out the bad stuff. And now I'm surrounding myself with things that make ME happy. Life couldn't get any better than it is right now.
I miss my Maple Grove friends. But I am enjoying meeting new support friends in the Hutchinson/Glencoe/Gaylord/Western Suburbs area. Marsha and Tammy, it was great meeting up with you in NYA on Sunday. That taco omelette was phenomenal! I hope to do it again soon. Now if only there was a Starbucks out in our area.

My favorite childhood memory... My mother would take my brother, sister and I back to her home in Alabama every summer, for the whole summer. We would take the train down and back and my grandparents had a very large farm. All of my aunts and uncles came for the same time with all of my cousins. We slept on mattresses on the living room floor (with those wonderful **** roaches) ewww.... and spent our days in the watermelon patch or grooming the sand "lawn". If company was coming us kids had to rake a pattern in the sand so it looked pretty!! Oh fond memories - thank you Darla.
My dream for the future is to have WLS and live a healthy long life. To have my grandchildren play 'with' me. I love love love having my grandchildren come and stay with me. Since I have been overweight all of my life another dream is to FEEL what thin is like.
Oh man Darla...I could go on and on with this topic.
Thanks...Donna
