Kidney stone frustration!
So, it has been a week now since I went to the hospital in horrible pain, turns out I have a kidneys tone. I still haven't passed it and I still haven't returned to work! I feel so horrible but, what am I to do if I am still in pain? My follow up appnt isn't until next week (soonest I could get), but I just feel so guilty for calling in sick! Anyone else experience kidney stones and how long they put you out of work for? I am not sure what the doc is going to do either when I go in next week since I haven't passed it. This is frusterating! Seems like one thing after the other.

My wife and my youngest son have had kidney stones in the past 18 months. Usually a stent is placed to drain the kidney and then you wait a week to see if it passes. If not and it is small enough, they go in and extract it. If it is too large to pass, they perform lithotripsy, which is directed ultrasonic waves that break up the stone. If the pain is too bad, go to the ER for pain meds (duladid (sp?)) and a urology consult. Dr. Haikel (sp?) works out of Mercy Hospital and he is an outstanding urologist.
Good luck and take care,

I haven't experienced it.. but just wanted to say that I'm sorry you've been in so much pain!
I use to get kidney stones a lot before WLS surgery. They usually do last a week or so; make sure you monitor if you have a fever because many stones can cause you to get a serious kidney infection. I've even had my kidney nearly shut down because of one. I ended up having to have surgery to remove it. If you are still in a lot of pain go to urgent care or the ER and have them do Xrays and see where the stone is maybe its just not moving. Did they give you pain pills? If you don't have those go and get some I can't imgaine going through all that with out some pain medication.

Don't feel bad about calling into work, anyone who has had a kidney stone will certainly understand. My hubby got one after his surgery, went through that painful ordeal after 2 months of recooperating from his RNY, he had a terrible time. And yes, if the pain is too bad, go to the ER and ask for a script! Good luck to you!
