Hi all-

Today is a down day for me so I'm thinking of maybe going to the library and getting a few good books to help me out......

What have you read on self image that was helpful?

Mindfullness and meditation?

Marriage?

Thanks in advance, Kelly

Kelly,
Look at the article that Lisajoy posted.  There we a couple of books mentioned in there.  I do not have any other suggestions yet...after surgery I'm sure I will go through some of the same issues everyone else has.  I know you enjoy riding your bike, maybe a bike ride to let your body take up your thoughts.
Hope you have a good day!  Wish the sun was shinning here!

I'm a self-help book junkie--drives my friends nuts.  It's not that I necessarily think I'm lacking something, I'm just always looking for better ways to do things.

I will post when I get home a list of the books I've found helpful. I just can't pull them off the top of my head, though I am reading a Geneen Roth book right now called "When You Eat at the Refrigerator, Pull Up a Chair: 50 Ways to Feel Thin, Gorgeous, and Happy (When You Feel Anything But)" that I'm finding quite helpful and amusing.

Joyce Meyer - A Confident Woman.  - she is an evangelical preacher - not sure you are interested in that or not but I also say with self help books - take what you need and leave the rest.  The whole entire book will not apply to every person.

The Power of Now - Eckart Tolle and A New Earth Eckart Tolle - hard reads but extremely profoud.  Again take what you need from them.

Hope you feel better doll!

This is, hands down, one of my all time favorite books..

Codependent No More: How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself by:Melody Beattie

Here's a link through Amazon that will let you read a few of the pages:

Amazing book...  I think in just about every chapter I found myself taken aback and blown away!
Plus, it gives some good exercises in it as well for processing your changes...
Every opinion we share, every favor we perform, every moment we intently listen to someone talk about themselves is our opportunity to pass along something positive to a person who needs us.

I just ordered this book from Amazon:

The Emotional First Aid Kit: A Practical Guide to Life After Bariatric Surgery

by Alexander, Cynthia L.

I haven't started reading it yet, but it comes very highly recommended.

Kelly-

I meant to post this earlier but how is it that days rarely go the way you think they will?

I'd recommend anything by Albert Ellis. He's not for everyone but his Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy changed  a lot of things for me.

I'd suggest starting out with A Guide for Rational Living.
