clothes woes

I am so looking forward to this hopefully being my LAST plus size summer!  Tried to find something to wear to a wedding this weekend.  Ended up spending way to much money on a shirt that I really don't even care for but it was the best of the worst!  Strengthening my resolve towards surgery.  Thanks for listening!

Where are you in the WLS process?  While I'm smaller than I was last year at this time, I'm still plus and can't wait to get out of that before next swimsuit season.

I know just how you feel about buying the best of the worst, especially when it comes to dressing for an event like a wedding.  If you tend to buy a lot of clothes, (I did, to make myself feel better) really try not to buy much if anything more new, it will just go to waste.  I did really good about not buying more new stuff for several months before surgery, even though I wanted to.

I remember that feeling!
And this summer is a MUCH different story, your's will be, too!!!

Watch for a fall Swapkins event, you'll appreciate getting tons of nice clothing for free while you're in the transition stage of going down in sizes.

This is my first summer out of the plus size departments. Now, I have the issue of not being able to find things I like small enough. I know what a problem to have, but none the less it is a pain. I have given away a ton of clothes, done some consignments and altered a few things. The one thing I had to alter was 14 tank tops! I refused to go buy more clothes, I took the best of all of them, sewed them down the sides taking off at least 2.5 inches per side and will make it through this summer!

I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago and had picked up a couple nice dresses at a g. sale for a church, good thing I wore them. They will be passed on soon, getting to baggy. It becomes such a crap shoot as to what to wear, buy, discard, trade etc.. I find it just as frustrating as it was when I was big. The woes of good health LOL

Kristy, I am at the beginning of my six month insurance wait.  I hoping to have surgery in January.  I know I will still probably be plus size next summer because I am 22/24 right now, I hope at least I will feel that I look good in  something next summer.

I did finally go through my closet and packed up some smaller clothes, so that when I get to that stage i can pull them out and can be excited because I haven't seen them in a while.  I don't buy a lot of clothes for myself simply because I have three kids that I have so much more fun dressing.  I do love bargain shopping, I think my husband is somewhat grateful for that, at least I won't have to put us in too much debt during my weight loss.

Congrats to all of you for your progress!  Look forward to joining you!

Surgery in January possibly and being a 22/24 right now? No way you'll be plus size by summer 2010! Start believing it, because it's true!

If you need a dress for the wedding, I have one you could have. It's hot pink & white, hibiscus flowers, light & flowy. I wore it for my niece's wedding two years ago and haven't worn it since.

PM me if you want it.

Hi, it's sure OK to be optimistic about anticipating RNY in January, and being out of plus sizes next summer :).  I had RNY July 25, 2006, starting out in sizes 22 and/or 2X, and by the first week of the following January, was wearing size twelve jeans! (Five months out, was wearing size fourteens over Christmas events during December. Granted it won't be easy, though even prior to my GP recommending surgery, was seeing a licensed psychologist who then divulged that WLS is her specialty.!  Afterall, we became obese by not taking control our emotions, but allowed our emotions to control unhealthy food choices.  Am  tooting my horn here, as I've diligently followed my surgeon's program to a tee. Am not perfect by any means, though know what to do when I've strayed.  Am thisclose to being three years out, and STILL have 'wow' moments--one just this past weekend.  Believe, believe, be gentle with yourself, and by working your tool, you WILL succeed!  All the best to you!  Patti  (I rearely gat back to this board anymore, though felt compelled to share my humble opinion with you-- also be aware different individuals have different hospital/surgeons programs which spawns myriad answers to some questions.  Follow your own program, direct your questions to your surgical support team, as they are your experts.) And please don't let strangers define who you are, nor your self worth.  By journaling your journey, even from this point, a realm of self-discovery will be evident as you go back to various stages.  This is lengthy, though just wanted to write what's going through my mind. Have a wonderful day! Another helpful hint:  check out thrift stores , UNIQUE, Savers, and Good Will for your best bargain shopping. It willl no longer be a chore finding appropriate attire!

I really get this, I feel like this entire journey I have been inbetween sizes..and now having had my plastics I can fit a regular size 16 and not a plus 16.  It really makes evrything worthwhile!

good luck
