Freaking out........

So I'm sitting here freaking out.

I am really worried about meeting with Dr. Baker in the morning.  I have not lost the 9 pounds they asked me to and I'm afraid they will not send in my letter to the insurance company until I do.  I started out great and initially lost 4.5 lbs in 12 days.  Then I quit smoking.....and I think I've actually gained close to that and 5 lbs since!  I hope it's just a metabolism change......

I have resorted to purchasing a 3 week pre-op diet on line from www.bariatricdiet.com.  I figured I could use that to help take off what they want if I can't do it on my own or use it for my 3 week liquid diet post op.  It actually should be perfect for post-op.  The plan is 900cal/80g of protein per day.  I also purchased a 12 oz mug that only dispenses 1tsp of liquid/tip!  I'm excited about that since I'm worried I may take to large of drinks post-op (I'm a guzzler)!

I am sure some people from Baker's  clinic will chime in... I have no idea how Unity does their program... but hopefully all turns out well! It's tough to quit smoking AND lose weight at the same time. Congrats on quiting anyway!

Hi there,

Dr. Baker is the nicest guy.......I had my RNY with him. I did lose my pre-op weight, so I'm not sure on how picky he is on that.......I know the reason why they want you to lose the weight is because they want your Liver to shrink.....I'm sure they will give you ideas for loosing the weight......Drink LOTS of water and protein shakes, exercise, and the weight will come off....

I hated protein shakes, but awhile ago I found a powder that I like, UNJURY unflavored protein powder. 1 scoop powder, 1/2 c. skim milk, 1 6oz. container yoplait yogurt like strawberry, and 1/2 c. frozen strawberries, Blend.....Yummy......

I live just north of Becker.....If you ever want to get together for coffee and chat let me know.....

Good luck, Kelly

All right, take a breath. ;] It's going to be ok.

First, I'm sure they'll go ahead and send it it. I don't think I was quite at my goal (-18lbs, in additon to the 10lbs I lost before my first appointment) when they sent the papers in, but Johnson told me to call back as soon as I was where I needed and they'd squash me in to the schedule somewhere, somehow to get my last weigh-in/schedule surgery.

I'm young, and impressionable (and it was stupid of me, I know) and my step-father (who also had RNY with Johnson) told me to call on friday and set the appointment up for monday morning, well, I was still about 3 lbs away from my goal, but I switched to a liquid diet, almost doubled my water intake and walked like a walking fool. I went in and I was a half a pound under, and they told me to keep losing right up until surgery. I don't know if this might work for you, but start the liquid diet, start the post-op mentality.

If you need a workout buddy or a friend, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!
Katie

It wasn't so much Dr. Baker, but the nursing staff at the Unity Bariatric Center that was so vocally adamant about me needing to meet their pre-op weight loss goal.  I was on a 4 month weight loss program due to insurance requirements and I lost more than the goal I was given, so I don't know what Dr. Baker's office will tell you.  All I know is that my surgery went well, despite Dr. Baker finding and repairing an hietal hernia along the way, and I have had no physical complications since then. My point is that a specific surgery date is less important, in my opinion, than being fully prepared for the surgery, even if that means you have to experience a short delay while you strive to meet your pre-surgery weight loss goal.

Good luck,

RP

Thanks everyone!  I will be starting the liquid diet 10 days before surgery...per Dr Baker!   I only gained 5.5 pounds total!  So I'm only up 1 lb from my initial visit...........YEAH...........So I have to lose 10 total.......no biggy!
