UNITY TIME FROM APPROVAL TO SURGERY

So I'm curious to know what the time frame for Dr. Baker is with scheduling surgeries.  I meet with him on Monday to discuss the surgery and my expectations so he can write my letter to HP for approval.  I know HP has a two week turn around time.  So assuming the approve me I would like to know how long others have had to wait to have their surgery performed once approved.......make sense???  I'm to impatient to wait to talk to him.......LOL

Baker was not my surgeon, but his colleague, Johnson, was. Same clinic, so our timelines should be realitively close.

It took about one week after submitting to HP to be approved, and after that, I want to say it took about three days to get back in to see Johnson and his assistant. I believe this was like.. March 18/19. He literally looked up from the computer and said "Are you opposed to April Fools'?" and BANG. I had my date and I was walking on air.

So, maybe just a little over three weeks between submitting and being on the table.

Good luck!

I had my RNY on May 6, 09.  I was approved by my insurance early March and got an appointment to see Dr. Baker about April 9th.  He pulled out his calendar and we looked at May.  He gave me a choice of weeks and I chose about a month out. I didn't want to do Monday because you always hear stuff that Surgeons are not at their best on Mondays, so I chose Wednesday the 1st week of May.  I know it seems like a long time in between insurance, meeting with Doctors and the actual surgery, but it really does fly by. You'll be on the loser's bench in no time.  Good luck to you.  You have a great Doctor.

I saw my surgeon before they submitted the request for approval, so everything was good to go. It took 12 days to get the approval, and I am scheduled for surgery in July.

I will have my surgery in 10 days on July 8th with Dr. Johnson. Overall it was about a month between approval and surgery, it could have been 2 weeks but Dr. was out of town for a week and I had to wait for another month but it hasn't been that bad. So for me it was 2 months

And the group thing is basically just a Q&A refresher so they know you understand everything and there expectations.

Hope that helps,

Dave

Thank you everyone!  I am getting a bit anxious since I was hoping to have the surgery done and be almost finished with the liquid diet before school starts....I have a 12 year old and a 2 year old........I need the 12 year old to help keep the 2 year old occupied so she doesn't use Mommy as a jungle gym.......LOL

I meet with Dr. Baker tomorrow so he can prepare his letter to submit to the insurance company.  Then Tuesday is the group teaching session.  I don't know what that session is since my call from the nurse on Wed. was the first I'd heard of it.  She said I was done with all my requirements to send in for approval.  I hope my insurance approves me so I can get this over and done with.
