Hi there!
I just want to get a few ideas because I just had lap band surgery on Wednesday. Everything seemed to have gone very well. I do have one problem and find it a little difficult to talk about, but has anyone who's had this surgery gotten constipated? If so what did you do to fix the problem? I have taken a chewable fiber tablet yesterday and today and that hasn't helped out yet. I also think that this problem is what is causing me to have a rough day today. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,

Luke

Hi Luke,

If you're on pain meds, they will plug you up.  Try some Colace (stool softener) first maybe.  There are store brands of docusate sodium (Colace) that will work too.  Maybe take 2 of those fiber things plus the Colace - and up the fluids.  If all else fails, go for a stronger laxative - you don't want to get in real plugged up trouble.

Don't worry about talking about pooping.  It's a common topic here!

Good luck!

Much depends on your intake as well.  What have you been eating/drinking since surgery?  Most people are on liquids or soft pureed foods- so there's not much to eliminate.

Fiber tablets, powders, etc will help prevent constipation from happening, but usually don't do anything once it has. I use Benefiber two or three times a week to keep 'regular'.

Many people swear by Miralax as a laxative.

I eat two or three prunes a day.  Kinda like a treat, and they do help keep me "movin'"...

(I like the Cherry Essence prunes from Sunsweet)
