feeling horrible
Well it's been 8 days since my surgery and i am feeling horrible. I ended up in the er and then back to my doc the next day for ct scan and blood work. All test returned normal and consistent with post op changes. Which is good. I was dehydrated and ended up receiving fluids and pain meds iv for 4 hours. I can't believe the pain i am experienceing. I thought it would be better by now. I was supposed to return to work tomorrow but now that's not happening. I am having horrible pains in the right side of my abdomen. My nut did add some soft foods to see if I could take in more protein. I felt really discourged when I see on the board site where there are those who are doing great just one week out. Anyone else feeling like I do.
Help!!!!
Help!!!!
Don't feel discouraged by those who are posting right now that they are doing so well a week out. I didn't when I had my surgery in December. I ended up back in the hospital as well, for dehydration. Was in the hospital for a few days with an IV. I felt miserable for the first few weeks. But things picked up and I felt better and better.
I used to feel discouraged when others who were close to my surgery date said they had so much energy. My energy didn't pick up until this past month. I'd been dragging for months and all I could think was, what am I doing wrong.
Come to some coffees and when you start talking to people, you'll find you aren't alone in not having the best of time with it.
Remember, you just had major surgery and depending on what your health was like before surgery, it might take longer to recover. Heck, my health was pretty good before surgery and it still took me longer to recover than it seemed for others. This is your journey and your body. Just take care of yourself and remember that everyone goes at their own pace with this. One of the hardest things about the board is that you will compare yourself to others' progress but you must remember that there is NO normal in all of this. That is so important to remember.
If you'd like to talk, feel free to PM me. Sometimes you need someone to remind you that things get better and you'll get through this. (I had the ladies from the WSP coffee. It would have been very difficult to get through those first few months without their support and hugs!)
And don't compare yourself to NewDayDawning (Stephanie). She recovers from things freakishly fast. I swear if she lived here 150 years ago, she would be the type who would give birth in the morning and be out chopping firewood in the evening. She is amazing and I'm certainly glad I didn't have my surgery at the same time she did because I'd hate her for bouncing back so quick while I was lying in the hospital gaining an extra 10 lbs of fluid from my IVs. She's a terrific friend though and wicked with a bat so try not to hold it against her.
