Goals & Dreams

Hey folks, this last Sat. I completed a mid-range goal of this journey, I completed a full marathon 26.2 miles.  I did it in Duluth at the Grandma's marathon.  Remember to set your goals short term, mid term and long term.  If you fall short pick yourself up and try again. This
journey is full of twist and turns.  Don't go back to old habits.  Stick to the program and ingrain good habits into your life.  Life is too short to give up.  It took me 1yr and 6 months to complete this goal and I've got many more ahead of me.  Think positive- Smile- and believe that anything is possible-  It all starts with a dream

Troy, I caught the updates from Nicole and it was just fantastic! I'm so happy for you. I know this goal has been out there for a while, and it's awesome to see it come to fruition for you! Congrats!!!

Let me ask you a question, if I may. When you find yourself falling short on a goal, do you reset the timeline or adjust some things to make it happen, or what do you find works best? I'm looking at doing the Couch to 5K and am a little nervous about injury happening since I've never before in my life run. How do you overcome injury on a physical goal?

Amy, great questions.  From what I've learned is you need to listen to your body(heart rate, breathing, aches and pains)  Also if you have had some injuries from the past it would be wise to see your PCP first.  It's ok to adjust timelines occasionally but never for longer than 3 weeks.  Always set a date for completion it helps to hold yourself accountable.  Most importantly let everyone know about your goals!!!  they will help you hold on when your at your toughest hour and you don't think you have anything left.  Those are true friends.

Wow!  Congratulations on reaching your goal.  I'd like to run a 5K someday after I have my surgery and can get in better shape.  I don't want to injure myself.  I think running a marathon is amazing!

Thank you, And you will run that 5k just give yourself enough time to heal. Stay positive no matter what comes around the corner.  You have been given the key to a new life, fill it with dreams!

Good Luck

Dianne, first of all thank you.  Second, you will get there.  It takes some determination and resolve that you can do it.

T-Rex,

Way to go!!  I am so happy to hear that you made it.  I was cheering you on on from way down here, but that had no impact on your success; you did it on your own.  Your note above only reinforces the need for all of us to take responsibility.  It can never be said too many times.

Congratulations, and thanks for the advice on the short, medium and long-term goal setting.

I'l see you soon,

Dan.

That is so great!  Congratulations!  1 year and six months is not a lot time to accomplish a huge goal like that!  Way to go!

I can do this, I can do this, I can do this - AND SO CAN YOU!!

Thank you Therese.  My only wish was that my kids could have been there to see DAD cross the line.

T-Rex:

Congratulations on achieving a very difficult goal!  Your positive advice is excellent as well.  You are right...to achieve it you first have to dream it.
