Ah, I have Medica so they most likely wouldn't have covered DS so I went for the RNY.  My BMI at the start was 51.1.  To be honest I don't know a whole lot about DS.  It's really not talked about a lot and they didn't talk about it at my surgeon's seminar (Abbott Northwestern).  Oh well, it's in the past.  It's nice to see information being put out there I guess.  It's nice for those who aren't super morbidly obese to see the other options that are available.  Sometimes you only ever hear about the LapBand or the RNY so the other options never come up.  Thanks for sharing!

Thank you!!!   It is important for people to have all the information available and then make a decision.  Too often, that is not the case.  People hear limited information from surgeons and limited information from their insurance providers, and make a decision based on just this.  And, all too often the motives for surgeons and insurerers are not always in the best interest of patients.

FWIW I had UHC and got approval with my lower BMI after an appeal!
