I am now a loser--is it normal to hurt when I drink or eat

Just had surgery on Weds. Came home last night. I have been trying to get my fluids in--and some of the tri-puree stuff. So--it is normal to hurt when I drink or eat? It feels like I am drinking air bubbles. It feels like if you drink something really cold and can feel it go all the way down. I have been walking--sipping and resting.

Yes- sounds pretty normal for immediate post op.  Sip, sip, sip-- it will be more comfortable than trying to 'drink'.

Welcome to the loser's bench!

I don't remember it hurting when I drank.  Have you tried different temperatures? Some people do better with things alittle warmer or room temp vs cool or cold.

Totally and completely normal. Don't pu**** - take your time.

Please spay and neuter your pets!

I just had my surgery and I'm feeling pretty much the same thing.  I've learned my new friend likes room temperature liquids and has a personal preference for CL cranapple.  Walking helps a lot with the pressure, burping too.  Rest, walk, sip and be well.

Take small sips, and leave enough time inbetween them... your pouch is swollen & needs TLC for a spell!  Make your beverages room/body temp, not cold or hot.  Walk a lot to relieve the gas & bloating.

This discomfort will pass, just remember - you're healing.  Be gentle!

I'm just over 3 weeks out and I still sometimes feel the slight discomfort when drinking.  Sure, I can drink a bit more than a sip now but sometimes I think I drink either too fast or my pouch doesn't appreciate the temp of what I'm drinking.
