getting a bit discouraged

I am 6 1/2 weeks out for RNY.  I have not seen any weight loss in almost 2 weeks!  I'm measuring, and getting all of my water in.  I've had a couple of sugar-free icecream snacks, which are at most 120 calories.  These last two weeks have been when I've started back exersicing regularly...and I am getting frustrated!  Any tips?

Yes.  GET RID OF YOUR SCALE.  This early out, you really shouldn't even bother weighing yourself but once or twice a month.  I only weighed when I had an appointment at my clinic for the first year+!  And ya know what?  I didn't get discouraged very often, because there was always a really nice DROP when I DID get on a scale!  That sucker WILL. NOT. MOVE. while you're looking at it.

Also - your body will alternate between losing pounds, and losing inches.  This pattern will be the norm for quite a while.  Your body has to adjust to the fewer pounds it's carrying - so be sure to pay close attention to how your clothes fit.  And take pictures, preferably in the same spot - like in front of a particular door - every month, because photos will show you changes the mirror won't.

Patience will take you far!

I know it's hard to put the scale away and not step on it. Since surgery, I've weighed daily. I know how you feel. But when I went through a recent plateau, I needed to listen to that advice, too. It is SO hard to do though. But just know that you are doing everything right - getting your water & protein in - the weight loss will come. One day, you'll weigh and see a 10 pound drop or something. This early out, it's just your body adjusting to being starved, for lack of a better word, too, so it's trying to conserve what it has. But, it will drop - no worries!

Just keep doing what you're doing and post here when it feels overwhelming!

Hugs to you.

Don't worry, as time goes on you'll see that you don't lose for a bit and then BOOM a few pounds come off.  If you can handle it, put the scale away for a month.  I had surgery in mid December and I didn't weigh myself the entire month of February.  At the end of the month , I had a 12 or so pound loss.

I'd also suggest going into the sugery date forum for your surgery month.  It's helpful to see where others are at who have had surgery around the same time as you.  You'll see lots of people experiencing the same stuff from food issues to stalls.  Go to FORUMS, then SUGERY DATES and pick your month and year.  I really like checking in on the Dec08 board to see who's doing what.

You'll do great!  You just have to get used to not having a daily loss 100% of the time.
