Hi im still waiting on approval but was wondering when will i see the surgeon again before surgery because i have gained 5 pounds and i dont want any problems for surgery.  Do i meet with him to get a date or do they give it over the phone.  And when do i get paperwork so i can show my job im having surgery so i can get the date from work.

I think every surgical program is different with regard to how they establish a surgery date after insurance approval occurs.  You might consider calling your surgeon's office and asking them to descrbe their process.  In the meantime, I have to say that I admire your patience with the whole insurance thing.  If you are having trouble maintaining your weight while you wait, your bariatric program's dietician or nutritionist might have some suggestions for you.  I went through the Unity Hospital program and their dieticians put me on a 4 month pre-surgery weight loss program that gave me a 60 lb head start on my weight loss.  Please keep us posted on how things progress for you.

The way my insurance worked, I had to see the surgeon first and then he sent a letter of recommendation along with all of my documentaion.  It took 12 days to get the approval letter from my insurance company.  Once I faxed that to my surgeons office they called me to schedule my surgery.

Have you been to the class and saw Dr. Ledderer afterwards at the end of all your dietician visits?  If so, you will probably not see him before, they will call and schedule a date  with you and you will start your liquid diet.  That will help get your pounds off too.

HCMC called me the day they received the approval from my insurance. You shouldn't have to see Dr. Lederer until your surgery date, at least I don't have to. They also mail the paperwork as soon as you have a date set. I think the one who called me was Susan, she's the surgery scheduler.  Hope you get an approval SOON!!!

Thank you for that information So when you say they mail out information is that the information that you turn in to the employer to get time off from work and who fills out the FLMA papers do the surgeon fill it out or your primary doctor
Just got tons of  questions

When I had my surgery, I had to have a physical at my PCP, I had him fill out my FLMA papers when I was there and just turned them in to my employer.  Hope this helps you.  I was only off of work for a week.  But I mostly sit behind a desk.

The paperwork I was talking about was the pre-op/post-op diet and other instructions for surgery. I have enough sick time so I'm not taking FLMA time. I think you will have to call HCMC to ask about the FMLA papers.
