Unity patients
I've been struggling as of late. I need help......
Just wondering if any of you go to the support groups and where? I know there are some at Unity, Elk River, Buffalo, etc....
Do you like the support group? Is it helpful?
I went to the one in ST. Cloud for awhile but didn't get anything out of it and it ended up closing down anyway....

I attended the men's group at Unity once a month for the first 6 months after my surgery. While all the men who attended were nice, I didn't feel like I got much out of those meetings. They were unstructured, lightly attended and not terribly social. I have heard that their Saturday morning WLS support groups are actually pretty good, but I haven't attended any of those.
Several people have suggested to me that I should consider attending structured WLS support group meetings held one or two evenings a month at the medical building located in Elk River by the courthouse (I forget the name of it). It might be something for you to consider.

Fridley is so far to go......I did see Elk River has meetings the 1st & 3rd Monday from 6-8pm. I may just give that a whirl........Otherwise I saw they have an Off track group called, "Find your Weigh" on Tuesdays from 4:30-5:30pm. at Fridley, I may need that too....

I am from Mankato and have been looking at all the support groups offered up in the cities. I too was wondering which ones were good. The one I attend is in Blue Earth and isn't very structured.

I have been part of the ER one in the past and know the facilitator pretty well and she's great!!! I don't think it's geared twords RNYer's... it's open to all!!! I know they have different summer hours you may want to double check that!
I have also heard Buffalo is good, however I"ve never been to that one, I too myslef was just saying I need something and wish there were more options up north here...
I think a support group is what you make of them and its always nice to get someone elses perspectives on things now and then!

I live 10 miles past Becker, so only 25 min. to Big Lake.....If you ever want to hook up at Caribou in Big Lake let me know......Maybe we could get a few people from out this way to join us.....Start a new coffee group......
You mentioned there hours maybe different at ER, I checked the Unity site and those are the hours posted 6-8pm, Do you think it is different?
Maybe we could meet up at a support group, I really do need to go.....I believe the next one would be Monday July 6th? I plan to attend that one....I'll call there to double check the time.....

I think that would be fun!!! I love to meet people who are at different stages in their journey... I"m 5 years post-op already and it's fun to see how the program has changed.!
I just think the meeting may end a 1/2 hours earlier, I'll double check in my emails and let you know forsure. I am planning on being at the support group meeting on the 6th, I have somethng to drop off for the facilitator... but I havn't been to a meeting in abut 3 years, so it'll be fun! Let me know if you forsure will be there and I'll keep my eyes open for you!! I'm looking forward to meeting you!

I will try to let you know.....I know were going out of town that weekend, I think we will be back Sunday night......10 pounds has creeped up on me, so I need to get it back off.....I need to get back to basic's......
I'll talk to some others that live around here, maybe they'd be interested in a Big Lake coffee also....

Aimee, I've been to the Images Support Group that meets at Mercy Hospital every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. I need to get back there since I have now had my surgery, but all that I attended were good...well structured and they kept moving. Sometimes there were not many people, but they always had a variety of people so you weren't hearing the same stories over and over. Good luck on your search.
