She Aint Heavy, She's My Sister

As I was making my way into work (late) today, the song "He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother" by the Hollies (see lyrics below) came on the radio and I thought of my brother, living far away in London, a man who has helped me immeasurably over the years and the words in the song got me to thinking of the women here on OH who have treated me like a brother when I needed to be carried, when I was weak, and sometimes, when I was maybe a little crazy.  That thought brought tears to my eyes and it does so now as I write this.  They are tears of joy, though, reflecting the profound gratitude I feel toward those of you who have reached out to me this past year.  Tomorrow marks the one year anniversary of my RNY surgery and I wish I could reach out and hug every damned one of you  in celebration of how much better I feel physically and emotionally than I did a year ago.  As obviously evidenced by my recent posts, I still need to work on the emotional front, but I feel like I am on the road to self-acceptance, which I never thought would be possible.  So, if you women don't mind, I would like to think of you as my sisters on this journey and no matter if you are pre-op, a newbie, or post-op, know that you aint heavy, you're my sister.

He Aint Heavy, He's My Brother

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

He's my brother
He ain't heavy, he's my brother...

Awesome song, Rick, from an awesome guy.

But you are NOT lifting me up or carrying me anywhere, you got that???  A person - I - can only handle that on rare occasions.

You mean you don't like to squawk in public?  I know that I am not alone in being amused by the sound you made.  Besides, 'twern't nothin' to lift ya.  Well, OK, fine......I won't do that , unless the moon is in the seventh house, or Jupiter aligns with Mars.......

I think the facial hair might be a giveaway that you are, indeed, nobody's sister.  You are a great and pioneering brother on this journey, though, and I am also grateful to you for that.

Rick,
You are a great guy!  You have given me many words of wisdom and for that I cherish your friendship.  Now I was witness to the Darla squawk/scream/squeal sound that came from that lift!!  It was a good chuckle in my heart because I know how she kept saying no you can't!!

Hi
I agree, this song is a good one.

I am heading off to bed so I thought I'd tell you congrats on your 1 year a day early. I wish I would have met you back than. You are a wonderful person and you say so many things that I just can't seem to say. Your words are beautiful! You've come a long way and I salute you and your success!!
