Four more days til surgery
I'm nervous, excited, scared, excited, hopeful, excited...
Yesterday Anna M. and I met for coffee - well we met at Starbucks. I had a chocolatey chip frappucino (last hurrah) and she just sat there looking ultra awesome in her size 12 jeans.
Things are so busy/hectic right now - trying to get things wrapped up at work.. laying out all of my insurance information/bill information in case something happens. Now I am off to write up a living will and get that notarized. Better safe than sorry right?
I was wondering if any of you folks had any other words of wisdsom or inspiration for a Fairview patient that you would care to impart. I'd love to hear it.
Thanks for sharing your journeys to this point. I cannot wait to see you all on the losers bench!
Stephanie
My surgery is the day after yours! YAY FOR US!! I'm @ Abbott though!
I am getting all my info ready for surgery too.
I was told to make sure you have some lip balm/gloss with you.. lips can get dry after surgery... and it sure beats the vaseline they might offer you. Don't forget clean undies, your glasses if you wear them, and a list of people you want someone to call to update your status... :)
And since I'm a girl and you're a girl, we hospital workers advise the wise wisdom to bring period supplies with you incase it spontaneously starts while we're at the hospital.. the pads they have on supply are the biggest gigantic ones known to "man" and the tampons we have instock are horrible-- standard paper applicator tampax generic ones. Also you can bring lotion but make sure it is not scented- they will make you put it back in your bag or throw it because most hospitals are scent sensitive now!
I would like to state for the record that those jeans were actually 14s but yes I was looking ultra awesome.
Just remember that you can only prepare up to a point. I know you've done the work and the research and are ready. Try to relax over the weekend, do some of those stress-relieving activities we talked about and, yeah, try to relax..
All I can tell you is that it's been worth it for me. I'm so glad I had the surgery though it did take me a few months to get to that point.
One of my favorite sayings is "sometimes you just have to jump and build your wings on the way down." You've reached the edge, sweetie, just close your eyes and jump. Trust in the decision you've made.
Big smooches!
Anna
I wanted to let you know that I was thinking of you and I'm looking forward to your first post-op post. I made a mistake and I'm having my surgery the day after yours. In fact, they bumped me up from a 1pm surg time to a 7:30am time. Much better, IMO
Be well, sip, walk, sip, walk
Lauren
